Yes it is tacky because your guest have already purchased a gift for you. It they wanted to give you money it is probably in a card for you. Don't make people feel like they have to pay to enjoy the day with you.

I am a total stickler about tact. I would NEVER open gifts at a wedding or ask people to bring food. But, the dollar dance is an acceptable tradition if it's done in the right way. You don't want your husband's crazy Uncle Sal humping up on you so choose the correct music. Nothing real fast but nothing real slow either, talk to the DJ, they'll help you pick. Also don't let anyone tuck a buck. I went to one wedding where the groom was using his teeth to get dollars our of bras. You DO NOT want that on the wedding video!!! Have the maid of honor and best man do collection duties so that you can dance but not act like a stripper. Also, set a limit of one or two songs and make sure the DJ knows that, it's fun like the Chicken Dance, annoying when it been going on too long.

Culturally I don't find it tacky at all. You could however, place a Large $$$ jar and have people contribute to it for each dance in lieu of the pinning the dollar on your wedding dress.

The dollar dance is wretchedly tacky - you might as well just ask people for money, it's a wedding not a charity event.

i've got purely heard concerning the greenback dance from YA! and from what i've got heard it feels like in all hazard the tackiest component i've got ever heard. the place I come from (manhattan) we don't have the greenback dance, and that i've got no longer seen a bouquet or garter toss in a on an identical time as the two. i think of it is all extraordinarily cheesy and uncomfortable for the travellers. you will get a hazard to work out all your travellers while you're making an attempt to work out them! The receiving line is an exceedingly super thank you to do it, and you will additionally get a hazard during the marriage!

Every wedding I have been to has a dollar dance. They usually give you a jello shot and a dance with either the bride or the groom.

TOTALLY WOULD NOT do that at my wedding or anyone elses.
Real tacky! You should be getting plenty of wedding envelopes. It would just make you look like a cheap beggar.

I have, just went to one last Sat. They had a dollar dance & just about everyone participated. Didn't appear to be tacky to me or anyone else there, otherwise they wouldn't have danced.

it's not that tacky at all. it is a good chance for you to get to talk to many people at your wedding, and you can have a couple of your attendants collect the money for you. it's a good way for you to have some spending cash for your honeymoon too.

I personally wouldn't do it, but I went to a wedding that had a beautifully decorated mailbox so that the people attending the wedding could slip a money card or money in to it.
