It's expensive to mak a round box, plus square boxes stack better. As for the shape of the pizza, I suppose it's easier to eat a wedge rather than a rectangle

Square boxes are easier and cheaper to make. They are also easier to store since most rooms are of the angular persuasion and not of the circular.
Plus...it's easier to put the dipping sauces and hot peppers in the corners and not on the pizza while delivering! lol!
The world my never know...

Its easier to make the square boxes, than the round ones. Besides, if you make the pizza larger than the box, then you have problems, dontcha?? :)
I wish you well..

same reaason they make round bologna and square bread slices.
and they do make square pizzas. and making round boxes would take more effort to bend it and everything. so square will do.

it is less demanding to take slices from a around pizza out of a sq. container there is greater area around the sides. if a around pizza got here in a around container and greater healthful completely how might we get a slice out without suffering or making a complete mess...we want the sides of empty area to be waiting to get on the pizza.
