When blood is oxygenated in the lungs, it is red. This red, oxygenated blood is pumped by the heart through arteries to different parts of the body. You can't see these arteries, because they are deeper inside the body.
When blood gives up oxygen to the different parts of the body, it becomes blue. The veins take blood back to the heart and lungs. They are near the surface of the skin, so you can see them.

Still wrong. Now ... my lifestyle has change I have notice they have become Very Very Blue... I at really badly sugar filled **** before I eat barely any meat and eat lentils and such... I ran I felt so alive it was like being in a constant bliss feeling like whatever I wanted and it did came to me!
Now That I am not things in my life are rotten they are decayed and diseased. It has to do with your Mind set and what you do eat that is important you can't go eating junk and think ok I will be this awesome ball of fruitful light and life... Naaa nooo. Doesn't work that way. I know for fact and I have proof that your veins are not meant to be blue... that is a sign of slow blood flow.. I can't say here but once not you're in tune and many things in your life will change but I can't say a whole lot here. Just that don't eat so much red meat... maybe once a week wean off of it get up and out exercises every single day do not stop and you too will see how wrong these doctors and heh hem others are so wrong. I will once again regain this status because it is a state one can never forget.

blood is never ever ever blue, and never was it blue. blood is red. oxidized or not. it's red.
now for the actual reason:
Vein color is determined in large part by the color of venous blood, which is usually dark red as a result of its low oxygen content. Veins appear blue because the subcutaneous fat absorbs low-frequency light, permitting only the highly energetic blue wavelengths to penetrate through to the dark vein and reflect back to the viewer.

OMG...Some of you people must have brain damage. Our school systems have really failed you people if you think blood is blue. Are you freaking kidding me? Is ignorance really this widespread? OF COURSE BLOOD IS NOT BLUE! Have you ever seen blue blood...seriously where? Did you sleep through that lecture in science, health or biology. Even if you don't know the reason for the blue appearance of veins you SHOULD know it is not because of blue blood. This is proof right here that US education has gone down the toilet.

Misconception. Blood is ALWAYS red. It is never blue. It only appears blue through our skin because of light refraction as it oasses through our skin.
