It's not true that only men get bald more than women.

Tennis balls get bald more than women also.

Actually they tend to get bald evenly (Women as much as Men) its just a lot less advertised and men to bald sometimes at a faster rate, but women experience just as much hair loss. Hair loss just like Hair Growth is Genetic, so you just never know if or when it will hit in Men or Women.

1. The genes that produce hair loss are in the X chromosome, of which women have 2. And men only one. (if a woman inherits the "bald" gene in one of them, it would be masked by the healthy one found in the other chromosome). Men are "unprotected".

2. Men produce di-hydrotestosterone (a modification of testosterone, the male sex hormone, which produces hair loss when it comes in contact with the hair scalp). Minoxydil products supposedly neutralize the effect of the hormone.

I believe it has been found that an excess of the hormone testosterone contributes to baldness, and since there is far more testosterone in men than in women, men are more likely to lose their hair.

I'm not entirely certain, but it is probably an X-linked trait. Meaning it would usually be masked in females but easily expressed in males. Kind of like X-linked color-blindness.
