You are confusing 2 things here.

The first, "Perry Mason" is a television show about courtroom proceedings.

The second, The Masons, are a fraternal organization. It is a non-political organization whos purpose is to make good men better and to help others. Although members of the organizatiton have been leaders of countries, members have also been ditch diggers, bankers, teachers, preachers, and waiters.

There are many conspiracy theories out there stating that we are a group that intends to rule the world. You needn't worry. We can't even decide what to have for dinner after our meetings, let alone how to rule the world. People just love a good conspiracy story.

Yes, they are very much in power. They come from places like Harvard and Yale. Many of them are in control of government offices. They are in every small town and even hold judicial positions. Yes they are still in power. Some earn a living preying on the misfortune of others, Other M Os include imposing taxes on the poor. Perry Mason was an attorney on a tv series, and we may joke about them but most government officials have a law degree and yes they are the ones who make the laws we live by.

The ambiguous and paradoxical universe of the law has intrigued us for centuries and will no doubt continue to do so. The lawyer’s ability to manipulate language and truth is both suspect and cause of hope to the client. To quote Wilkie Collins in Man and Wife: "The law will argue any thing with any body who will pay the law for the use of its brains and time."40 Fictional lawyers will continue to reflect our feelings of ambivalence towards real lawyers as facilitators of both good and evil, and lawyer/authors will continue to foster those feelings. While we yearn to be represented by the likes of Perry Mason, we are convinced that our opponent’s counsel is Randolph Mason. The lawyers who write these books recreate themselves as Perry Masons and their antagonists as Randolph Masons. Popular culture mirrors life; life mirrors popular culture.

Perry Masons are criminal defence lawyers. Usually, they're high-priced and high-powered ones who have a good track record of wins vs. losses.

Hhhmmm...now that I ponder upon the question, I wonder if they are overweight masons who carry their weight on their hips and thighs or if they are jars of anjou or Bartlett pears that are preserved in brandy...the mind boggles lol
