Being a vegetarian has many health benefits. I found an article relating to this topic written by a vegetarian Mormon himself.

There is no official LDS church position on vegetarianism. The Word of Wisdom says that meat should be used sparingly if at all, so take that how you want. I think it means that there should be balance and health in our diets.
NOTE: the user whynotaskdon has no idea what he is talking about and references a website that does not objectively represent what LDS people believe. We are NOT a cult but a distinct and valid religion like many others in the world. It's people like him that perpetuate religious intolerance and lies in this world.

The LDS church has a couple of teachings that apply to vegetarianism.
The health code followed by members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is called the "Word of Wisdom". The Word of Wisdom prohibits us from ingesting certain substances (alcohol, coffee, tea) and also gives us commandments about what to eat and how. The Word of Wisdom teaches that we should eat grains, fruits and vegetables, etc., and that we should do so with thanksgiving. It also mentions that we can eat flesh of beasts and fowls, but that we should use them sparingly.
Another revelation to the prophet Joseph Smith also teaches that it's wrong to forbid people to eat meat.
So, putting these two teachings together, I would say the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints doesn't command people to be vegetarians, but certainly does allow it. This would be left up to the judgment of the individual member after prayer and careful consideration, I believe.

Well, if you read section 89 in the Doctrine and Covenants (another book we use in addition to the Bible and Book of Mormon) you can learn more about the health code of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which is called the Word of Wisdom. Most of us could learn to use more vegetables and cut back on meat and processed sugar and flour. The principles of good health include avoiding alcohol, tobacco, hot drinks like coffee and strong tea, drugs, and anything that interferes with spiritual progress in general. We should be using more herbs, fruit, vegetables, poultry, and grain, and be careful how we eat red meat. In general red meat should be used more often just in the colder season. I know a few Mormons are vegetarians due to health constraints, or maybe they have decided that is just more healthful to them. My sister-in-law won't eat bacon due to something she learned about it, but I love bacon and tomato sandwiches (can't eat them too often, though). I am kind of in the middle and am trying to incorporate more green, leafy vegetables into my diet along with a bigger variety of herbal supplements (also for health reasons). I don't avoid dairy products except in the case of sickness or other illnesses or symptoms (ice cream is yummy). Hope that answers your question.

LDS people love vegetarians, but only if you add a bit of salt and some BBQ sauce.

Eat meat "sparingly". Fish is okay, I believe, if you're a vegetarian, isn't it?

They are not followers of veggies like the 7th day adventists and Hinduu are. That CULT have their own twists--like thinking all the men are or soon will be gods...... and need to marry ore than one to populate their own world! (yep-strange, but true)
