trying to say "it was hot"

do I say:
estuve calor
or
fue color?

when I say "hot"

I mean weather-wise

so I know its ____ color
not ______ caliente

The following are all correct.

Estaba caloroso
Estaba caliente
Fue caloroso
Fue caliente
Estuvo caloroso
Estuvo caliente
Hacia calor
Era caloroso
Era caliente

However DO NOT say estoy caliente if you are to warm, say tengo calor
English isn't the only confusing language! :OP

estaba caliente, refering to weather, because you using the word
"It".
estaba caliente referering to something hot, like a drink, or when you iron a blouse and used right of way, you will say estaba calinete cuando me la puse, It was hot when I wore it.
there are so many expresions where you can use the "It was hot"
depending in the context.

To describe a weather condition you have to use HABER, we do not use the verb ser!

Hace frío!
Había caliente!

i'm taking a spanish course and i've always learned it era caliente and i even checked it on Google language tools and thats what it said

Referring to weather, is: estuvo caliente......that means that the weather was so hot........

for example if you was talking about wheather you say : hacia calor>( in past time) or estaba caliente

It would be: Estuvo caliente. When you say "fue color", you are saying, it was color =).. so it is " Estuvo caliente".
