An atheist does not believe in God.
An agnostic assumes that there is not enough evidence in either direction to make a clear decision on believing or not.
Agnosticism can also be defined in these ways:
The view that the existence of any god is unknown at present.
The view that any god's existence is unknowable.
The view that theism is incoherent (see ignosticism.)

I imagine different people define it in different ways, but for me, and I consider myself agnostic, what it means is that I can't say one way or another whether god exists. It's different than being atheist because atheist believe there is no god. For myself, and other agnostics, since there is no real way of proving anything one way or another, the thing that seems most honest is to say "I don't know."

Someone who does not know whether God exists or not. Some people believe in one or more God (Christians, Jews, Muslims, Hindus). Others believe that there is no god (athiests). Agnostics are kind of middle-of-the-road. They say they don't know whether God exists or not. They say they have no proof either way. They say they keep their mind open, and if they get any evidence either way, they will become believers or unbelievers, as the evidence would be.

The textbook definition of an agnostic is that they believe that the existence of God cannot be proven scientifically. They believe that we cannot truly know him, because he is just that...unknowable. You can still be agnostic and follow a religion.

Agnostics beleive you cannot truly know the existence of God, therefore they do not make religion a part of their life. If some proof developed then fine, otherwise they do not think we should spend much time debating something we can never know.
