Where can I get training for mortgage underwriting?
Particularly in Ohio. More specifically Cleveland.

Unless you have experience in mortgage lending, I would stay away from any training programs. With the boom of jobs in the lending industry, I have seen several people take appraising, processing, and Sales rep classes costing up to $1500 for a few days. The problem is they teach you the procedure, and in this business procedure changes from day to day, companies, office, and who you work with. I worked at World Savings for 5 years, and 2 offices 1 mile apart could not borrow a processor because of how different our procedures were.

With that said, it was mandantory to work in different positions within the company before becoming an underwriter. To leave one lender and move to another, applying as an underwriter the most important question on your application is what was your previous signing authority. Each underwriter has about 6 months with none, they need a supervisor, then you usually get $200K, and based on performance and how hard you work they raise your signing level accordingly.

It is very hard to find a lender thay pays a decent wage to an underwriter, most make very little comapred to the processors and loan reps. Ive known many processors turned underwriters that are begging to return to the processing positions they once had.
