I think I can help.
My wife and I trained all 3 kids this way:
First, clear out a weekend.
Get an egg timer (or other handy kitchen-type timer that has a "ding" or other ring).
Set the timer for 15 minutes. The first day, every time the timer "dings," say to your toddler, "Time to go to the potty!"
ADDED: THEN TAKE THEM to the potty right away, pants down, and let them sit on the potty seat for a few minutes. (sorry i left this part out before! OOPS!)
Be diligent. Every 15 minutes, do this. You can let them know that they get a treat every time they pee-pee or poop in the potty.
Whenever they use the potty (either way), give them a reward of one Skittle (fruit candy) or one (or two) M&Ms. Praise them greatly. Then keep doing the 15 minutes. Do this all day.
You'll find that by the end of the day, your toddler may even hear the "ding" and say, "Time to go potty!" And they'll run in.
The second day, start with the 15-minute interval. Then after the first hour, space it to every 30 minutes.
All 3 of our kids were trained this way - all in one weekend! What a joy when that last diaper is changed!
They'll probably still have accidents every now and then, but this worked for us.
Good luck!

Sounds like he's using the potty otherwise. Is he in training pants? Sometimes the cotton training pants make kids not want to soil them. (He may anyway, so plan on throwing some away)Just keep up the encouragement and you will be through this and on to the next phase.

When my boyz were that age, we used to name the poops they made while sitting on the commode. Gross as it may sound, boys will be boys. We came up with alligator poop, shark poop, etc. and each time he would happily show me his creation and name it. This "playtime" definitely helped them get on the can and out of the pampers.

i have twins and one would one wouldn't. try not to make a fuss about it just casually ask if he says no dont fuss. its scarey enougth. he will do it when hes ready it wont be long. just tell him how big he is when its done. i'm sure you thought of all that already but i like to try and be wise.

well if he is like most kids, then he will do exactly the opposite of what you tell him to do, so tell him 'NOT to poop in the toliet, EVER AGAIN!!!!"
