Here's a quick story...

Me, age 19, given an Minor In Posession. I was given the choice of it going on my record or going to classes... I chose classes. I learned that the reason that the drinking age is 21 is for 2 reasons... 1. The human brain is not fully developed until age 21. 2. States were told by the government that if they wanted extra funding for highway repairs, they must change their drinking age.

I think that children should not have alcohol. I started drinking when I was 15 and it caused me to do some really stupid things that I regret. I was also raped at age 19 and I was under the influence. It's not an excuse, but it is partially the cause for it.

It's often to do with height and growth. Put simply, anyone under the age limit is deemed to be too small (which makes the alcohol too concentrated in the body and so stronger) or still in development. Alcohol hampers your ability to think and can damage your liver and brain cells. As you're still growing, this can be seen as a medical catastrophe! Different countries set different age limits based on medical evidence and belief, so some countries wait until 18, others 16, some don't even have a limit!

Kids in some European countries can have alcohol from a very early age, with lemonade sometimes. That's because the country they are in doesn't abuse it and act stupidly like some other countries (Britain being one of them). I'm British. My kid is 15 and if he wants to try something I let him. He doesn't abuse it, just tries it then doesn't bother. He's very body conscious, i.e trains a lot so doesn't want to ruin his body so I'm happy with that situation.. A lot of kids sit in front of tv nowadays and drink on the streets. That's wrong because this is a nation of drinkers and if kids see parents or adults generally acting the way they do they assume it's acceptable. I'm very lucky with my son because he's sensible in the way he'll try something and that's that. He doesn't need alcohol as a lot of other kids do but the urge to try different things is a pressing subject with UK kids.
What do you mean 'It's not fair' that kids can't have alcohol? Why do you need it. I'm not contradicting myself but your mum knows the results of too much alcohol and you should appreciate her views. They are only for your own good. Listen to her. You'll appreciate and acknowledge her views as you get older.

Because alcohol is really a poison, it damages your liver. Also, if you're under 16, it will stop you from growing your full height. If you look at people in the Middle Ages who drank alcohol as children already: they were short and crooked, judging by the height and width of houses in Europe built in the M.A. There's really no sense in wanting to take a poison regularly and becoming less tall and less beautiful than you could ever become.

Skifaster's selling you nonsense, by the way. Drinking is also restricted in Europe.

Simple...

Alcohol is a poison.

So, the smaller the volume (size) of the body that is drinking it, the bigger (and more dangerous) it is.

Don't be mistaken into thinking that all that alcohol does is make you feel a bit funny and then it wears off. That's just for starters.

Long-term drinking (even smallish amounts regularly) can wreck your liver especially, and you won't live to a ripe old age.

Surely that's enough of a warning?

Some countries allow kids to drink. It depends on where you are. Anyway children dont always know limits. But say in the U.S. its against the law if your under 21 so kids drink more because they're not supposed to.

Because its bad for you, besides you have plenty of time for all that. It knocks down your inhibitions (makes you do things you normaly wouldnt) and until you are an adult and have become used to it the law has to step in (believe it or not) and take the choice away from you.
There are plenty of kids out there who get drunk to show all their friends how "grown up" they are when adults who see this behaviour actualy think its silly and a sign of childishness.
You have plenty of time for all that - enjoy being a kid.
