Just respect their opinion. If you are butting heads use an empathic approach. Put the ball in their court and allow them to problem-solve.

Well remember that 17 yr olds and 19 year olds are entiring the early stages of adulthood. Part of the phase is that they will be in proxy of knowing certain aspects of a given situation or subject. Remember that a part of being being an adult is to be responsible in thoughts and in action. Give them time - even though a 17yr old have to know it, its all apart of life's plan, and sooner or later, they wil fit in well.

What exactly are you asking? Most kids getting out of high school think they know it all but it takes some hard life experiences to get it through their heads that they aren't as ready for life as they thought they were.

Allow them to have their own opinions and agree when they are right. If they are clearly wrong then let them be wrong and figure out for themselves. They are carving out their own identitiy and their own belief system. They want to be seperate from their parents and that is their way of expressing that they are growing up and becoming their own person. Just accept that it is a sign of growing up and try to conflict with them as little as possible.

Can I ship my kids to you when they get that age?

;)

I know...kids just want to make all the mistakes themselves, and don't want to hear about parents suggestions.

That's just how they are when they're 17. Just let them be.
