if not, how do you believe the universe came into existence ?

If the current theory ( M-theory ) is accurate, our universe probably came into being when two other universes collided, creating what some call "the big bang." I don't claim to understand M-theory, but I do know that science is the only method mankind has ever developed which accurately describes aspects of the universe through replicatable experiments.

Not necessarily agnostics, but I think most atheists- if not all- are believers in evolution and the Big Bang theory. But there are some who are as much "agnostic" ("un-knowing") about religion as they are about the Big Bang theory. It is, after all, just a theory.

But it's always good to question. I don't think we should all accept that some huge meteorite that hit the Yucatan Penninsula killed off the dinosaurs. I am open to that very real possibility, but there might be other viable explantions. Having a background in biology, I tend to side with evolutionary theory because there is just so much evidence that it can't be reconciled with any other competing theory. I personally do not believe that there is really a "debate" between Creationism and Evolution because for two theories to compete, they must explain things on the same level of analysis. Evolution explains things on a genetic level, whereas Creationism explains it on a spiritual level. Theories that exist on different levels of analysis may even appear to contradict themselves.

I have no idea how the universe came into existence. I guess I have thought that something had to exist before the universe, but then again, what created that something. So if there was a "big band", what sparked it, and if there is a God, what created God?

Actually, agnostic means undecided, not necessarily atheism. I'm agnostic and I can say I haven't heard anything that satisfies me, but the evolution type scenarios make more sense then God. There's definitely a higher power/creator, I just don't think it's God based on the writings.

The agnostic position is that many things like this are beyond human comprehension. That doesn't mean *all* agnostics believe the same thing regarding this though. Beliefs differ between people.

Just because i don't understand all the intricacies of the beginnings of the universe doesn't mean i have to attribute it to magicians and/or spectres. There is a non-supernatural explanation for it, and one day maybe humankind will be clever enough to figure it out. If it doesn't happen in my lifetime, fine. It's not like it will change my life in any way to see numbers on a page, right?

I am but i also see that if a single electron pre-big bang had been even the smallest unit in a different place all life wouldn't have existed. Now don't you see an outer force in that?

My answer is: I don't know and nobody knows. But if you say that someone created the Universe, you are not answering the question, but only putting another interrogation after another one, because this claim leads to another question: who created god? So, I prefer to say that I don't know. I am agnostic because I don't know, and I am also atheist, because I don't have faith in god.

I think many are rethinking big bang. There is fair evidence to dispute it. Most are not ready to embrace creation-but they are looking hard at I D. I D by the way came from scientist not creationist as so many assume.

I believe in evolution, but I have no clue how the universe began. And while it's fun to think about and discuss, it's not really that important to me.

No, agnostics don't nessesarily believe in the big bang or evolution theory.
