Best advice, Use It... if you are not happy with the performance or the quality, then return it. (Including a few sites that helped me make a buying decision.) just play around with the camera, use in different lighting, distances, subjects, see if it is the camera for you.

There's nothing wrong with the R1. It's a great camera and really in a class by itself. Excellent image quality and a solid build. But, as previously stated, it's not a DSLR. The question is- do you want a DSLR? there are advantages and disadvantages to them. The R1 offers an excellent compromise betwen the real time functions of a 'digicam' and a DSLR- where you only get to see the resultant image AFTER you take the picture.

Personally- I find the looks and size of the R1 a bit unwieldy.

The 2 sites that I trust for honest and in depth reviews both love the DSC-R1. Here are the links to those reviews:

However there are 2 reasons that I would personally prefer a Canon 350D or a Nikon D50 for the same budget:
* Better performance for action shots (no vierfinder lag, 3 fps for more than just the first 3 shots)
* Freedom to expand/ upgrade lens collection. Never mind the 24-120mm zoom range, there are situations where you might want to use an f/1.4 lens for artistic reasons or for low light photography. With a dSLR you can.

Check the Rating at the Site and see what other people say. Dont listen to one person cause u never know when he is wrong and see if u like things that has good things that u like. If u like the things it has then u can keep it
