All of the familar rental name are there, Hertz, Avis, Dollar, as well as Euro. I have used Hertz, Avis and Dollar. I prefere Hertz, due to location at Heathrow and if you sign up as a Gold member with Hertz, your car is waiting, no lines and its a fast exit from the airport area. This is I assume your flying into Heathrow. In Gatwick its also easy. Hint when you depart the Hertz lot at heathrow if you do use them, turn left from exiting the lot and proceed till you come to the roundabout, follow the signs around three roundabouts to the M25, now you can go east or north connecting to the motorway heading west, since you said your going west of London, out towards Windsor? This exit avoids the main airport entrance and traffic. Its actually exit 14 on the M25

Another good option...
Go into internet at
Easyjet.com
That is a UK economical flight company, and they have their own rentacar company...You can reserve directly and pay (safe) on internet, and get your car on arrival at any UK airport...Their fares are less expensive than the international/big companies such as Hertz, and their service is good. (Another thing: If you need an automatic car, specify it before you rent, cars in Europe are all normally with a gear-shift, and automatic cars have to be requested specifically)
