I just removed some very old linoleum tile from one of my rooms. What's left is this black sticky substance, resembling tar. I need to know the name of a good chemical remover (hopefully something that Home Depot may have), that will work fairly quickly. Any other do-it-yourselfers out there that have done this sort of thing??

What you have is called cutback that was used to install the tile, if you need it off the only way I found is scrape what you can with a 4" razor scraper and use lots of rags and laqurer thinner to get the rest.

the best to do is install 1/4 inch plywood over it, if that is not a option look for a floor leveler material and trowel it down over it , prefer a non gypsum product
