if you were around in the 70's, all anyone did was complain about how crappy the 70's were and how the 60's rocked and how all music sucked since the 70's started. they even had "disco demolition" night after a White Sox game in '79. all the critics said bands like Boston and the Eagles were crappy corporate sellouts.
then, in the 80's, everyone said all the great music was from the 60's and 70's, and how everything in the 80's was overproduced crappy synth music with no soul.
then, in the 90's, everyone said all the grunge and punk was just ripoffs of the music from the 70's and 80's.
now, everyone says the current music is just ripoffs from the 70's and 90's.
BOTTOM LINE - every decade you get a huge group of out of touch people who say the current music sucks and all the old music is great.
here's a GUARANTEE - in 2026, someone will ask on this same message board (or whatever they have in 2026), "hey, dont you think that all the good music was in the 90's, 00's, and 10's?"
if anyone thinks current music is worse than music from "yesteryear", then you're simply looking in the wrong places. promise.
PLUS, a big part of what makes great music is the same thing that makes great wine - it needs time to age. you'll hear angels & airwaves or the dropkick murphys or supergrass or jack johnson 20 years from now on the classic rock stations and you'll say, "man, they sure don't play em like this anymore. everything sux now."

Although I do like alot of todays music ,I don't think there will ever be another era with music as excellent as the 60's and 70's. Those were groundbreaking times for music. Much of what you hear today would not be possible if not for the music of those times!! Led Zepplin, The Doors, Black Sabbath, Talking Heads, Fleetwood Mac, The Who, David Bowie, Bruce Springsteen and so many more to numerous to mention broke the mold of "popular music" of the time and broke all the rules. If not for them, music as we know it today would not exsist!!! Thanks for such a great question!!

I think music was great back in those days, (take Eric Clapton's Layla, or Ozzy Osbourne's Crazy Train, for example), but it's still good now. You just need to find the right band.
As a matter of fact, sometimes I get the feeling that life in general was better 30 years ago.

Yes absolutely.
If you listen to music today, especially club music, you will find that many of them are remakes from the other eras!! reason being .......... they were the best!!!

Not all of it, but a good portion of it. There's been some decent stuff since, but you'll only find it on an alternative station.
