If I were the "Leader of the Free World" the first thing I would have to understand is that laws past a certain point can be more harmfull to the population than helpfull.
All the common sense things have been done already and there are laws for them, why should I change them just to make a name for myself to become a part of history enforcing a few might be nice.
American's have acheived some of the greatest feats in the history of the world and they should never be shamed out of them.
From time to time this country needs a possitive enviroment to acheive higher goals more than it needs more laws.
We need leadership that isn't afraid to inform it's people about the direction the country is going. We need to stop using the tax system as a method of herding people from one direction to another to fit the needs of whichever party is in power at the time.
We need a system that protects the mom and pop business as well as the corporate giants and develope lifestlyes for the working American's that are sercure today and far into the future.
Job retraining and new carriers should be a choice, and not leavied upon the citizens.
This country needs direction and History has proven that time and time again. We built the greatest military the world ever did see and along with the allies defeated forces in WWII that would have taken freedom from the world as we know it.
We put a Man on the Moon and traveled to other planets, while the rest of the world is following our lead.
My goal for the country is the moon, The moon has the largest deposits of H3 that we know of in the solar system. H3 is filtered from the earth by our magnetic field (so none is found on the Earth) and is could be used to create safe enviroment frendly cheap power. (Cheap and safe to convert, hard to get to and transport, after all it's on the moon)
Converiting H3 into power would be the number one greatest step for mankid since learning to control fire. This power could be sold to the rest of the world creating jobs. Todays coal miners will be tomorrows microwave power transmission operators.
Of course to do this will take taxes, but unlike other ventrures into space the common American has not directly benifited from except to be able to use the services and devices sold to them today. Think of that, you payed to develope many new things that built new industries so that you can pay to use them, thank God you can download the great pictures from the Hubble for free.
Every American to invest into this project via taxes or other tax provisions would be paid a dividend from the profits of such a venture. Alaska has such a feature generated from there production of oil so this is not a new concept.

Ok so do I have any Votes so I can run? about 140,000,000 for starters will do. Sorry I can't pay for them.

1. Get rid of the entire sitting congressional delegation.
2. No salary for the newly elected group.
3. No money from lobbyists.
4. Fly commercial at their own expense if they need to travel.
5. Force the TV/Radio stations to air political advertising in exchange for use of THE PEOPLES airwaves.

In the old days, being a congressman was a pain in the a*s. The only people who would do it were the people who felt obligated to serve (and they did it begrudgingly). Now its a money grab. This has led to poor quality representation for the people and therefore massive voter apathy.

Remove money from the equation and the populace will finally have a real say-so.

I would get rid of every politician currently in office. They do NOT represent the will of their constituents but of big business and special interests. I would tell my local reps that if they don't vote the way the people want, they are out of there the next election. Maybe if enough people did that, they might actually do some important work like the war, economy, immigration etc. and not grandstand for the voters with worthless ideas like a constitutional amendment about same sex marriage-what a huge waste of time and effort.

I would limit terms to 8 years . Just like the President. And have the positions open to all Americans. I think that Congresspeople get too comfortable in office, too beholden and too rich. I know the argument , it takes time to learn the job baloney! You do notice that the only people who say that are the people IN office.
I heard a comedian say that holding office should be like jury duty. You get a notice and you say oh-h-h no it's my turn to be secretary of state! I can't do this for four yrs. I have obligations ha has. Maybe order free TV time 30 or 60 sec slots, like they do now only free. Then think about how many average , and not rich, people could run. wow Utopia!!!

I would 1st impose harsh punishment on all lobbying efforts by anybody to any member of the government. 2nd fine the present administration $1 for every million of deficit created during his tenure ( that would be retroactive of former administrations). 3rd scrap the electoral college 4th scrap the senate.5th Impose term limits of 2 years with no returns. 6th make the wage of all representatives equivalent of the average American worker with no retirement benefits 7th require the children of all the executive branch to serve in the military at the front should it be deemed necessary to have a war. 8th take back control of the federal reserve from the hand of private banking interests and return to the gold standard. 9th make it mandatory that anyone considering public office serve in some capacity in a volunteer organization ( such as Habitat For Humanity, Red Cross, Peace Corps etc.). 10th Bring back the write in or oral ballot.

1.Get rid of electoral college: Popular vote could now actually mean something, I hear these computers can do amazing things! LOL

2. Get rid of lobbyists: Paying someone to be interested in your cause and put in a good word seems alot like a bounty hunter for votes.

3. Make state representative, senator, presidential staff jobs based on commission. Some of the positive commission items would be jobs created, high school/college graduation rates, average business profit. Some of the negative commission items would be drug related deaths/incarcerations, terrorists attacks, war casualties, dropout rate, unemployment, etc. I guarantee priorities would change real quick, they wouldn't be worried who's getting married or who's taking steroids. Bush would be like a clerk at The Buckle trying to get every living soul to raise his commission.

A Constitutional Amendment that ends gerrymandering.

All districts would be drawn using a computer program that creates districts based on the following criteria (ranked in order of importance)
1) Equitable population density
2) Equitable wealth density
3) Equitable industry/business density
4) Equitable size/shape
5) Preference given to districts shaped as a hexagon
The program would generate 5 possibilities that state reps can choose from.

"Fairness" of program would be verified by:
a) Three separate independent software/programming companies
b) Five separate independent socio-political geographers

yes i would make it a requirement for any citizen to VOTE
that is the biggest problen the US faces, the unending apathy and complacency of the American public
that is why the politicians are crooked and the lobbyists get what they want
if you would all just get off your fat lazy asses and vote, every chance you got(which is not that often and is another thing i would change) then maybe you find it worth voting and you would find that in the past you may have been able to make a change.
But any chance of that happening now is slim to none.
The damage is done and the only plausable resolution (short of a violent civil war)is to hold a Constitutional Convention
Rewrite our constitution and recreate the free world as we know it

"God bless us all"...now more than ever...

Hey, does this sound familiar, like America.....We need a big overhaul. We are based on this:
In contrast with the "declining empire" theories, historians such as Arnold J. Toynbee and James Burke argue that the Roman Empire itself was a rotten system from its inception, and that the entire Imperial era was one of steady decay of its institutions. In their view, the Empire could never have lasted. The Romans had no budgetary system. The Empire relied on booty from conquered territories (this source of revenue ending, of course, with the end of Roman territorial expansion) or on a pattern of tax collection that drove small-scale farmers into destitution (and onto a dole that required even more exactions upon those who could not escape taxation), or into dependency upon a landed élite exempt from taxation. Meanwhile the costs of military defense and the pomp of Emperors continued. Financial needs continued to increase, but the means of meeting them steadily eroded.

It can be done by voting out all incumbents and elect someone new. Outlaw soft money and reduce the size of the government. Get rid of handouts and all the subsidies.
Oh, have a fair tax by taxing when you spend. There is a movement out there trying to do this.
