◾2.7 GPA is equivalent to 82% on percentile scale so no it's not bad, you have a B

Depends what you're planning to do. Most colleges won't take a 2.7 student without decent SAT/ACT scores (if that's based on a 4.0 scale).

A 2.7 GPA is a B- on a 4.0 grading scale. Good job

Depends on what you mean by "bad." No Ivy League school would take someone with that sort of GPA unless they were state champion athletes (or something equally impressive) or their parents were as rich as the Vatican and/or as connected as Tony Soprano. Even for a state school, that's still somewhat subpar.

I hate to have to be so brutally honest, but it's basically true. I hope you have one hell of a resume outside the classroom.

A 2.7/4.0 looks pretty average, as in - this person probably does not apply themselves. If I were assessing someone's potential as far as academics were concerned, I'd have some concerns about the 2.7. However, for the purposes of getting into state universities, that should be sufficient if it is combined with decent SAT scores and (most importantly) some sort of extracurricular clubs, programs, service groups, etc. (for example: help out the American Red Cross as a volunteer, or work with the Special Olympics or something to add a "civically minded" dimension to your paper personality).

Are you in high school or college? And is that out of a 4.0 or higher?

2.7 out of 4.0 is not bad, not great. You would ideally like to have above 3.0, and for competitive programs, 3.5+.

If you plan on going to a prestigious college, you want to raise that GPA above 3.0 and then do a great job on your exams (SAT, ACT, etc).

If you are already in college and want to attend graduate school, you should consider how competitive GPA's are in the respective field. From my own knowledge, the GPA's are:

Psychology: 3.7+ (psychology is a really easy major, so you should crack above 3.5)
Engineering: 3.3+ (engineering is harder)
Humanities (poli sci, history, sociology): 3.5+ (relatively easy majors also)
Law School: Ideally 3.7+ Unfortunately law schools don't distinguish much between difficult and easy majors, and competitive and less competitive schools
Med School: Ideally 3.6+ Med schools like high GPAs, but extracurricular activities have almost equal weight.

If you have good extracurricular activities, good recommendations, and great exam scores (SAT, GRE, LSAT, MCAT, etc) you can make up for a slightly lower GPA. But if the program is EXTREMELY competitive GPA-wise, your chances may be low even if everything else is stellar. Some law schools, for example, just do an index of your GPA and LSAT, paying very little attention to extracurriculars and reco's. If you bomb the LSAT and have a lower GPA, that's it.

Finally, there are some schools that take low GPAs and low exams. If you're not very picky about where you go, you can always opt for those. But if you can up your GPA to 3.0+ and get an excellent score on your exam, try to aim for a second or third tier schools (usually state schools). State schools are very good too and have excellent resources and facilities. The best private schools (like the Ivys) may be a little too out of reach if your GPA is below a 3.5.

Don't be let down by the few people here who think they're geniuses because they pulled great GPA's. You just have to try to do your best. If you believe that you aren't doing your best, for whatever reason, your should try harder. I don't think you are a "slouch" for having a 2.7 GPA, as someone said, or that you have to have a 3.98 or else you won't be "hired", as another said.

And to the person who said:
"my lowest gpa ever was a 3.45....and im not even considered a nerd by any means...haha i think thats funny "

Learn grammar. I'd give that person an F in English.

Keep your head up and do your best.
