Is there anything in the Qu'ran that contradicts this? I have served inthe Army, and have NEVER met a Muslim female soldier, Airman, Marine or Shipman. Would your men beat you if you enlisted in the Military? Just curious.

Also, what do you think about female Military personnel? All the Iraqi chicks and dudes, looked at us like we had three heads. Are we "taboo" or like, super-duper keffirs or something? I'm a married woman, with two children. I served my country with honor, and ETS'ed. I'm not a heathen whore with a semi-automatic weapon. Why do you all see female service personnel that way?

OK, so basically, Muslim females are supposed to cook and clean and make babies, right? Oh, now I see why I got the stankeye over there. I should have not been toting a gun, I should have been toting a cast-iron pot to the fire and two babies on my hip. It's all clear to me now.

Haaya Bin Laden> Look lady, the ignorance you put on me, is the ignorance I saw over in Muslimland. OK?? I am just telling you what I saw. Blame your people, not me for recounting the tales. The truth hurts, huh? Have you ever been to a Muslim country? Seen how they treat women? You are judging my experiences from behind your protection of the US. Let's see how you would feel as a Saudi female. Been there too. It's not a great place to live as a woman.

Been in the service, never asked what religion I followed, just the oath to the country...My daughter followed the tradition in the Corps...the last of your ...(Question) was, just plain wrong and not in the military tradition of America. Americans as a whole view all service personnel reguardless of gender as heros, beliefs, race, gender not even an issue...Unless YOU make it one!

It is bigger you do not become a member of. The US navy do not serve the US, they serve Pakistan, Iran, Iraq, and Afghanistan. Do you recognize what they serve them? Death, torture, oppression, looking to ban hijab, killing kids and terrorizing those international locations. Don't become a member of them given that the US army are the truly terrorists after Israelis and France and normally the British. You like to journey plenty, there are tons of jobs that contain travelling. Such as, journey agent, information reporter, journalist, hockey participant, you'll be even a pilot. Playing with the NHL would now not be a task however it's a laugh and includes travelling plenty. You will also be a scientist. It can contain travelling around the globe. You will also be a historical past/geography educated. These would contain travelling. Instead of travelling with an navy that kill Muslims. If you be with them, you're in opposition to Muslims.

In the Quran it does say to abide and respect the laws of the country you have been brought up and born in. As a muslim woman I dont see anything wrong with joining the army. A man would not beat his wife if he follows the true islamic principles. It may mention beating in the Quran as permissable however that is equal to a tap on the shoulder which is hardly a beating and that is only in extreme circumstances. When you read the Quran you have to read between the lines and not just take what it simply says, as verses have much deeper meanings.

Maybe for the same reason you see all Muslim women as oppressed individuals who constantly are beaten by their husbands = sheer ignorance.

Though it is very rare, if at all, to see an military officer in hijab, there is nothing in Islam that says a woman cannot join the military to fight for her freedom and her rights. The only restriction is that a Muslim cannot kill another Muslim without just cause (e.g. for murder), so it would be pointless pointless for a Muslim to join and be deported to, let's say, Iraq. But I would like to point out that there is an increased number in Muslim women police officers in hijab, and many many Muslim men in the US Military (my best friend's husband is Marine).

Also, as another poster mentioned, in Islam women and men both have certain roles. A man is generally more fit than women, so he is seen as the protector of and provider for the family, and the women are generally more patient and nurturing, therefore her role is seen as to stay home and raise the children, or at least to balance her business with her children (but all the while putting her children first). So finally to say, there are no restrictions, just culture differences. Those Iraqi "chicks and dudes" stared at you in the same way that American "chicks and dudes" stare at women in hijab, it's unusual and different.

Islam teaches everyone to be faithful and loyal to your country...defending it would count as that but I don't know much about the army so I can't answer this answer to the point where I would like to answer it but if the guidelines don't contradict with Islam then I think it should be okay to ....

But Islam has defined specific roles to men and women and I think that defending the country would be more of a man's job......women can show there patriotism/loyalty to their country by doing other government services...

Anyways, the US has the draft for men and not women....why is that?

I know a few Muslimas that are serving in the U.S. military and do so with honor too. As for female military personnel's, it not an odd sight in my country. It's not forced upon them though. It's their choice.
I've seen harsh treatment of women in my country and in non-Muslim countries. It doesn't make me bitter towards all women or men. Lighten up!

The only thing stating religious prejudice would be if your religion forces you to be UNABLE to bare arms. I am not sure if Muslim is covered, but I know Buddhists would not join as it is a mortal sin to kill anything living...
