I agree. You will find drool or water on the toilet seat or the floor. I would just close the door or put the toilet seat down. It looks better if you have guests over anyway, and it will keep puppy from putting his nose where it doesn't belong. Unless you aren't good about making sure he has fresh water. If you are gone for long periods and he often runs out of water, I would get a bigger water dish or put out more than one so he doesn't feel the need to drink toilet water.

I think someone has already come up with the right answer for you. Either don't leave the bathroom door open or don't leave the toilet seat up -- clearly, your dog can't drink what he can't get to. I sure hope that he doesn't drink out of the toilet when you're IN the bathroom with him!!!

LOL.. water around the toilet and usually a trail from the toilet to the door is usually an indication.. And along with yummymummy my dog does the same as your cat. She REFUSES to drink from her bowl. She drinks half the toilet water and then goes to the shower to get whats left on the floor!! Whats even worse is whenever my 2 yr old sees the dog drinking from the toilet she goes and flushes it.. Soo funny!

No, but I use to hear my dog drinking from the toilet in the middle of the night. Make sure it has fresh water more often or a larger dish. Nothing like toilet breath!

You could put the lid down, and then if you go into the bathroom and the lid is up, the dog was drinking out of the toilet.

If he prefers to drink out of the toilet and it is closed, he may let you know he is not happy. My cats knock things over in the bathroom when seat is left down to let me know they are not pleased with their human!

As long as you keep your toilet clean and don't use chemicals in the tank it won't hurt him. We have a cat that refuses to drink out of a bowl. He meows at the sink for us to turn the tap on for him to get a drink. He will even drink out of the gutter but God forbid he should have to drink from a bowl! Not really relevant to your question, I know, but I thought I would share.

If he/she leaves water or saliva next on the floor close to the toilet. I would recommend leaving your toilet seat closed.
