No, it is considered a learning disability or a behavior disorder, but they are not disabled in the sense of how people with severe disabilities are in regards to qualifying for disability payments, etc. I used to work for a company in St. George called Pathways that worked with students who often were diagnosed with ADD or ADHD. They used a variety of nutrition techniques as well as meditative and physical exercises to help children learn to slow down and be ready for learning. It may turn out that such a child is more right-brained than the public school system is able to comprehend. Many people have grown up to achieve great things even with ADHD. One example - Robin Williams the actor.

My son has ADHD and I have never heard of getting disability money because of that! Many children are helped tremendously with medications and other children are helped with behavior modification and counseling. A lot of times schools will put the child in a SPED class because they can't be mainnstreamed into the regular classroom. My son was and I was told by his teacher that he was the type of kid that would never become the President of the United States!!! My son is now in college working on his Bachelors degree with a 3.8 GPA. I do know the schools get so much money for Sped students.

ADHD is a learning disability, a child does not qualify for services unless there is a discrepancy between achievement and ability. Some parents collect Social Security with the proper documentation.

No, not at all. Actually a child with ADHD could have a higher IQ than you! ADHD means in short that the child that has it has attention-concentration-obedience problems, not intelligence or ability ones.

First of all, what country location are we talking about here?

I'm a disabled access auditor in the UK, and strictly speaking, no this is classed as a disability. Please bear in mind that in the UK, you cannot be registered disabled anymore (i.e. no more green cards).

But if you wanted the disabled status with the view of getting disabled benefits or a parking badge, then I'm afraid you're out of luck on both counts.

If you're in the US, sorry I can't comment not being up with their laws and regulations.

Hope this is of help.

no i dont think they are, its just a disorder where the child has to be constantly entertained due to low concentration levels on things for a certain period of time.
its extremely common these days for a child to have adhd and a way to prevent further 'bad' behaviour is to watch what they eat
ie no high sugar content foods etc.

No. But ADHD left untreated may cause many problems for the child.

ADHD is not a disability. It's just restlessness.

The parents get disability money for them so yes, although I think it's nothing a slapped back side wouldn't have cured
