You can always try to unspoil your dog. I keep 2 Yorkies, 2 Poodles 1 Chihuahua and 1 tiny Yohuahua. I've rescued some of them.I found homes for them and they brought them back to me. The dogs were so unhappy the new owners felt sorry for them. They didn't spoil them like I do and the dogs sensed it I guess. I just think dogs have feelings too and like lots of love so I treat them according to their personalities. I try to be the Alpha personality to keep some order in our home. Pets are to be enjoyed and they aren't always orderly. I am not very strict. So I have spoiled and pampered pets. If your dog is spoiled try to just love him anyway. Hope this helps in your situation.

Yes, it can be done. First: you have to work on reconditioning the bad behavior. Then once he is learning, you train him in the behavior you want of him/her.

Once spoiled always spoiled is bull. Dogs are pack animals and need to learn their place in the pack. Humans can lead the pack, and you should be doing the leading otherwise the dog will have anxiety and try to compensate. The "Spoiled" behavior is typically a result of the dog finding something that, like nicotine, sooths his nerves. You will have to take charge and calm him down while you reprogram the bad behavior out.

All dogs are trainable. You just need to be consistent, and reward good behavior and don't respond to bad behavior, unless the bad behavior is seriously in need of correction, then you should only use negative reinforcement in extreme cases.

Never shout the dog's name while disciplining. Otherwise every time they hear their name they will run from you. Just be consistent. That will work for you. It takes time, so don't expect things to be different by this weekend.

Misty40 (below) recommends Crate training. I don't like that method, seems kind of cruel to me. Imagine your parents closet training you! Dogs can learn new tricks, just be clear what you expect of them. If you do use Crate Training (I hate that idea), just don't overdo it. Reasonable punishment is reasonable enough. But she is right about taking it slowly and praising the good behavior.

Yes you can but it will take a while to alter the behaviour it has learned. The first thing to do is get a crate for it, then start with one behaviour you want altering the most. If the dog refuses to obey you then put it in time out in its crate for a short while and give plenty of praise when the dog behaves properly. Once you have mastered one behaviour then move onto the next. Take it slowly as you will confuse the dog if you have loads of rules all at once.

My Jack is spoiled and yet when he steps out of line, a sharp command of "enough" or "stop" most of the time work, my tone is what he responds to. " bad dog -on your pillow" I then place him in his pen for 5 minutes. I don't crate Jack I don't hit him, I shake a can of rocks (loud noise) and snap "No" now I just shake the can-he knows. I buy him toys and snacks (moderation) He gets more hugs/praises- than snacks. Spoiled-my fault!!! but he is my Jack. So, be happy and let you dog be happy. Table food is not good for them really.

It can be done, but....it requires you to be retrained first. You must be consistant with your training and not give in to the dogs begging. You allowed the spoiling to take place in the first place so now the dog isn't going to know whats going on. This is not going to be easy for you or the dog.

No, probably not. Its a done deal. So sit back and enjoy the dog. Even though the dog is spoiled, it is still trainable. My dogs are very pampered(nicer way of saying SPOILED. LOL) But they mind very well.

I also have a rotten spoiled Mini Poodle six years old.
All I know is he's fine until I get ready to leave the house without him, then he throws a fit. I have to throw him a treat and when he goes to see what it is I hurry and beat it out the door. And I'm sixty five but I can move quick.

You poor thing. Thats hard to do. I tried after I had spoiled my doberman, and it was a heartache. If you're serious, be prepared to want to cave every second, it definitely takes a lot of patience. Unfortunately I never did unspoil my doberman, her perserverance and pouting made me weak.
