Cats hate the smell of citrus, so sprinkling lemon juice around places you don't want them going will keep them away.

Try getting a quantity of sand and dumping it out near your property's edge so they can use THAT as a catbox.
You could also try calling the nearest shelter to you, even though it's not in your immediate town -- they might be willing to pick up the trapped cats. Better yet, find a rescue group.
if you could find a way to scare them badly enough in the garage, they may not come back. They have long memories. They definitely don't like loud noises.
You could try camphor balls lining the entrance to the garage where the door won't close all the way (closed at much as possible)
Don't dare poison them. They're only there because some idiot didn't care properly for a cat, had kittens, etc. etc. etc.
You might even try putting out some dry food for them around the garage, because cats DO NOT like to poop where they eat!!

I hear you loud and clear.... The smell can be quite awful....
Please do not think about poisoning them again, though.
Two suggestions..
Fix your garage door and the cats will not be in there.
If that is not cost feasible right now..
There are strips of rubber you can buy at your local hardware store (home depot and lowes) that are to weather proof your garage door and entry doors. They attach to the bottom of the door, they are not expensive, if you can not fix the door at this time perhaps you can fix the gap that is allowing entry.
As for the shed,,, bricks do not cost much about 20 cents each,
4" x 4" lumber can be cut to your specifications at the hardware store at no extra cost to you.
I believe to keep them from seeking shelter in the most convenient at comfy place "your shed and garage"
you must simply not allow them a way in and that is pretty easily done.
Absolutely have a talk with the cat lady and let her know she is really causing neighborhood problems by feeding these cats and ask her if she would not mind trying to find them a new home as a way of caring for them instead... She may consider them her cats and may help you seal your garage from their entry as well as perhaps providing them with a place to home in her yard instead.
The good news is..... You don't have mice!
Have a nice day

My crazy step mom used to feed feral cats..I feel for you.
I would still see if there is a private shelter. Most ferral cats are not adoptable though. Trying playing a AM talk radio station in the garage. They won't go in there if they think someone is in there. I would call the city and see if there is an ordinance you can get your neighbor busted on for feeding the cats too...as long as they get fed they will never really ever go away.

Your neighbor is the problem. As long as they are fed, the cats will come back. A nice shelter is also a bonus. As soon as you can get the door fixed, do it or you'll probably wind up host to a couple litters of feral kittens. As for the litter box, they probably won't use it. Have your nieghbor STOP FEEDING THEM!!!!! All of them. She may be one of those ultra simpathetic people that can "sense the agony of the poor lost kitties'' but they survived without her before and they can do it again. If all else fails, get a cat hating dog.DO NOT POISON THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There are stuff at the pet's store that keeps cat's away from thing's you don't want them to go into. I think it's a spray....I'm not quite sure, but it should be in stock.
As for a litter box......I don't think that will work, Because that kinda makes them take advantage of your home.
Try spraying some water on them, and keep doing that *til there is no more cat's on your property

Spraying bleach-water around on the inside of your garage will help kill the urine smell and make them want to stay away. Just don't spray it anywhere that you might get it on your clothes. Or, set up a live animal trap (this doesn't kill them) and haul them off to the country far, far away.

Instead of worrying about the cats. Why don't you worry about fixing your garage door? Then you wont have to worry about the cats.

Citrus. Also, have you tried asking the lady who feeds them to take care of their other needs too? Maybe she will put a litterbox at her property for them. Don't hurt them though, it is not their fault. Good luck.
