My husband and I will be flying there in July and were wondering where we could find the cheapest flights. Any suggestions?

Before I moved to NYC 7 years ago, I lived in both Western and Eastern NC for 12 years. My mom still lives about 30 miles East of Asheville. Quote often when we go down, we fly out of Newark on Continental. At times US Airways is cheaper, but boy do you pay for it in service. Newark is as easy into NYC as any of the other airports.
Of course I would check out the bargain websites, don't waste time with a travel agent. The Second site below is helpful with airfare. The first site below will give you great ideas for itineraries.
Happy hunting and enjoy your trip to our amazing city.

Both Delta and USAir serve New York's LaGuardia airport from GSO. They are showing midweek (nonstop) flights for $229 roundtrip.

Answer #8 below, and it's ilk--folk who sign up and post "answers" here only to hump their own travel referral websites--is flat wrong. I tried Travelnow, er um I mean, travel247 (which gets a referral percentage from Travelnow if you click their links here and book tickets) or whatever, and the best it found was $255. Book direct from the airlines and save yourself $26 in this case.

Just watch the specials everyday. I find RT flights to NYC from Dallas for $300 all the time.

I HIGHLY recommend http://www.kayak.com for checking prices. They are very fair and show prices below what others are asking.
