Where in the bible does it say BEING gay is a sin?
I know that Lev 18:22 says have sex w/ a member of the same gender is wrong, but where does it say that BEING gay is a sin?

Are abstinent gays (like Da Vinci, Newton, Sen. Joe McCarthy {yes, the anit-communist guy, he was married but admitted to homosexuality}) sinful? Are they deserving of hell?

I don't think it is a sin, because God is forgiving.

I've never seen the benefit of "outing" people who are no longer alive to contradict these statements. If people like DaVinci, Newton, or McCarthy were gay, you and I truly have no way to know about it, and I guess I just find it a bit offensive to drag out people's personal lives long after they've passed on. It doesn't seem like an even playing field. But that's not the point.

In my reading of the Bible, there is absolutely nothing that says "being gay" is anything...sin or otherwise. It doesn't even refer to the existance of such states of being as "gay" or "straight". As you pointed out, the Bible states restrictions on sexual behavior, of which having sex with the same gender is one limitation.

That said, the Bible also states elsewhere that "ALL have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." (Romans 3:23). That means that we are ALL deserving of hell. Once we get beyond this effort to separate out one sin or another and get to the point, we'll have a much better witness to the world.

The point isn't whether someone is gay or not. The point is the condition of their heart. Have they recognized that they are a sinner? We all are, but many are too prideful to admit their imperfections. For some of us, it may not be sexual sins, but we ALL have sinned. The Bible tells us that forgiveness is only through Christ's sacrifice, and our acceptance of His salvation.

Gay or not gay isn't even relevant at that stage.

NO NO NO! There is no sin in being gay any more than it is a sin to be human. The only hell is here on earth and God if it truly exists would be evil if he shunned a gay person. I am straight. Any rules in the bible were likely in response to declining populations and the leaders declared that the standard practice of lying with someone of the same sex was part of the problem. Don't take a single word in that book that many men wrote as truth and law. Quoting the bible is like quoting the farmer's almanac. And yet I've not been smote by the hand of god....hhhmmm

Sir, there are few places in Bible which says having sex with same sex is not natural. And God created Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve - so we can work out that homosexuality is not approved.

about that sin - well, how big a sin would it be? really I do not know, maybe it is just a small one, maybe its such BIG one. But i do not venture to say anybody is going to hell for homosexuality. because that is for God to decide - not me! Silly priests and bigots are the ones who condemn people to hell for their percieved sins - even before giving God a chance to judge on the judgement day. But if ever there is a God, and there is a hell, gay or other wise - you are bound to find late Sen Joe down in that hell.....

I think that it goes to what you do with it. All of us are sinners (Romans 3:23..For all have sinned.....). Now, looking at attractive young ladies by a married man is also a sin. So I think that it is all relative. The Bible does say that a man is not to lay with a man (paraphrased).

As for the deserving of Hell comment: We are all deserving of Hell, but by the grace of God and the sacrafice of Jesus Christ, we can be rid of our sins and accepted into Heaven. If those members that you mentioned above (or anyone else for that matter gay or straight) does not or didn't ask for forgiveness and believed that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and was crucified for our sins, rose from the dead 3 days later, and is coming back, then they are going to Hell.

Take what the Bible says in that Scripture at Face Value. Sin is what you do Not who you are. Having sex with a member of the same gender is a sin. But why is that important to you? Sins can be forgiven by God. no one's sin is unforgivable. God does not like sin but he loves the person unconditionally.
Because of sin we all would be destined for hell if not for the gift of salvation thru Jesus Christ. The requirement for receiving eternal life is to believe on Christ. It is impossible not to sin. Romans 6:23 says that the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life. Romans 3:23 says that all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. So instead of not sinning being the criteria for heaven or avoiding damnation the only criteria is actually believing on Christ.

Being Happy is not a sin, but having sex and even lusting after another man would be sinful acts. Romans basically say all men are sinners and need forgiveness.

How can you be a abstinent homosexual?
If you lust after a man it is the same as sex!

This question is very confusings to what you want to know!!!!

False, me thinks.

I've met some people that are so very sinfully evil yet straight.

And all you rubes need to lay off the Bible quotes- it just makes God look petty & mean!

And maybe it was Adam & Steve and just re-written...no one will ever know what the ORIGINAL Bible ever said. It has been edited over the centuries...ALOT.

Also, think of all the things gays have been instrumental in contributing or saving in this world - classical music, art, sculptor,
design, and even sports. Did you know the origanl Olympic were played in the NUDE with men only allowed to particiapte and that in ancient Rome it was acceptable for a husband to have a boy beofre or even during marriage.

SO grow up and lay off gay people and go get your teeth fixed instead, ya rubes!

Lev 20:13 says that having sex with a member of the same gender is an abomination.
God burnt down Sodom and Gomorrah because of the homos. So yes, being gay is a sin. If you abstain and you lust after the same sex or even the opposite sex, you are sinning. I cannot say who is deserving of hell, because only God can judge you.

I don't believe it says that being gay is a sin in the bible. I think people have interpreted that for their own agenda. I believe that it is a natural biological thing. Homosexuality occurs in the animal kingdom. Some Gray geese and giraffes have been seen to mate homosexually for life. How can something be a sin if you are born that way? I do not believe at all that homosexuality in itself is a sin.

In the Bible, God condemns the homosexual act. BUT, there's also another passage in the Bible that says that if your hand makes you sin, you should cut your hand of. The Bible is VERY GRAPHIC in this respect: "Cut anything that makes you sin (including your eyes) right off, and throw it a million miles away").
(Sick!!!)

In a way, it is an aknowledgement of human frailty (created by God). So he can't condemn that which he created.
Being Gay is NOT a sin, according to interpretation. Homosexual sex IS.

BTW: I bet half the male participants who said it IS a sin, know deep in their minds they would give in if they had a shot at a very attractive guy. LIFE EXPERIENCE.
