bunch of BS... My parents were the meanest strictest parents on the block and none of us (out of 5) turned out overweight.

Funny because I heard that on the radio this morning. Anyway, parents who are strict tend to want everything done a certain way at a certain time. The kids would feel a little like they weren't good enough and I can see where that would cause them to overeat because lets face it: mom and dad might yell at them for not getting their chores done, but that bowl of icecream would never yell at them....

I don't know that it's a complete crock. I look at my husband and myself. Both of us were raised in strict households, and both of us are now overweight. The main way we celebrate our accomplishments and commiserate over failures is through eating.

I had extremely strict parenting.... I'm 5'3 and I weigh 130 pounds...4 months pregnant. No strick parenting shouldn't cause weight issues in children, assuming that the parents are strict about things like TV and junk food consumption.

I think the way you raise your children is the best. My sister has a 8mo old son and he is 27in and weighs 24lbs. He has'nt even tried to sit up or anything yet. My son is 15mo and is 37in and weighs 23lbs.. So in my opinion you can condition a child to be overweight starting from birth.

Yes it can. It can cause them to be overweight as children and then anorexic as adolesent. Food is the one thing we can control. By setting all the rules and enforcing them ridgidly yes a child might turn to food for pleasure if he can't find it easily from other sources.

Form me being a kid I think so.
The reason why I think so is they become lazy and they don't wont to have friends because you keep them in a jail. Let them ride a bike, go to the movies with friends just let them have a life. You should know your children give them more trust.

it's common sense ,,kids with strict parents are stressed out and comfort themselves with food..they certainly cant count on the parent for comfort..When the parent is bent on being the authority power tripping aspect of parenting instead of trust and tolerance

yeah well i think its hard to keep kids from snacking when they want to...but I guess they mean...the more you try to keep them away from fattening foods, the more they will want them...I am just assuming this.
