Call your phone company. Tell them what's going on. They can trace the number. They can also block incoming private numbers (at least Bellsouth can for a small fee).

Not sure the police can do much with out having you contact your phone company first. (I dunno, but it's worth a shot)

If I were you, I would write down the dates, times and what this jerk said to you.

Anyone can use *67 to make their number private. So I bet it's someone you know....maybe stalking you...or an ex...(I say this b/c he's calling you repeatedly)

Next time he calls tell him there's a trace on your phone and that you will persue criminal charges. Scare him!

Here's a WHOLE WEBSITE that tells you what to do!

"What to do if you receive a harassing call:

Hang up as soon as you determine that you've received an improper call. Hang up calmly, resist the temptation to slam the phone down on the receiver.
Listen for background noises or details in the caller's voice, but do not stay on the phone just to do this.
Keep a pad of paper near the phone to write down the day, date, time, and nature of the call.
You may report these types of calls to your local police agency.
Most telephone companies have a nuisance or threatening phone call bureau that you can contact for guidance.
Have a supply of extra cassette tapes for your answering machine, so you can retain the tape of an improper call. "

Dial *69 and this code calls back the last number -- what you say from then on is up to you. Or dial *77 and this will block that number.

Or a more mature thing to do is immediately after the call ends, call your operator, report the abuse, and ask that the number be blocked.

When I was in college and in my 20s, I got a few harassing phonecalls. Most of these people are bored males who are stupid low-lifes. They just want to get a rise out of you, and they want a reaction. Doing the OPPOSITE of this is a sure way to piss them off, which will make you happy.

I'd suggest that you think of a number of snappy comebacks. Here are a few that I used with DEVASTATING effect. The net result was that I was NEVER harassed again! :)

-- (3 second pause, dead air) Huh. That's nice. (silence) This complete lack of reaction will completely throw them off.

-- That's it? That's the best you can do? Call me back in 20 years when you can think of something ORIGINAL.

-- You would actually have to have a penis to able to do any of that. I suggest you grow one.

-- Begin reading in a loud, weird, sing-song, chanting voice from something totally bizarre, like a cookbook or the phonebook. Talk over the other person and just keep going and going and going. This worked particularly well when I started with a letter of the alphabet and just kept on going. They'd ALWAYS hang up. You're being bizarre, not reacting the way they want you to, and you're not doing what's expected... you are off in your own little world, and you are now officially a crazy, scary lady. TEE HEE.

Anyway you get the general idea. Do something weird, say something devastatingly rude about their penis or lack thereof, their families, their competency, etc. Or just read from a book and keep going and going and going, talking over them the whole time.

Never stop to answer questions. Never respond to taunts or jibes or deliberately baiting comments. They want to engage negatively with you and they want any response at all, especially a negative response, because they are bored, have no life and are desperate, pathetic losers who have no social skills.

Good luck. I know you can use your devious mind and be creatively insulting and get these creeps off you back. :)

Cheers, K

call the phone company, they can trace the next one for you, but they will insist you follow up with a police report. It helps if you can get tapes of the calls as well
