I serously need to quit smoking. I'm 30 years old and I've smoked cigeretts for 15 years now. Both my body and lungs are telling me it's way past due for me to quit, if it's not already to late.
I can't get any help for the smoking though. I have three young kids who are driving me absolutly crazy right now because of the withdrawel. I seriously took a bat the other day and beat the living piss out of the side of my garage to try and get rid of the rage. I have absolutly no support from family. My husband smokes right in front of me, he doesn't believe in me. Of course my kids don't understand, I couldn't expect them too. I'm crying over every stupied little thing, i can't sleep, and this is only day 3. I'm supposed to deal with this for at least 20 more days? I have to. I don't know how. I've been told to try the nicotine gum and crap. But thats just gonna delay these problems. I don't know anymore.

You can't quit because the cigarette companies make it almost impossible to quit. Especially after so long. I know that there's something in cigarettes that makes them way more addictive then they should be, I smoked Marlboro's for a year, and I became super addicted super quick, if I didn't get a cigarette like every 3 hours I felt like I was going crazy, I couldn't think straight. A friend told me to try American Spirit cigarettes, cuz they don't have any additives. I hated them at first, cuz they didn't really make the cravings go away, and after 3 or 4 days, I started having withdrawal symptoms! No joke, I was still smoking every day, but I felt like I was quitting, I couldn't sleep more than 2 hours at a time, I started eating more, and I had intense cravings for chocolate (I don't know if that was withdrawals or not, but it made me feel better). Then, after a week, I felt better. I went from smoking 5 or 6 cigarettes a day to 1 or 2, and the craving became much more enjoyable (that's a weird way to describe it, but instead of feeling like a crack addict who needed a fix, I was able to sit back and enjoy my cigarette). And now, I don't feel as guilty about smoking because I'm smoking less, and I just feel less addicted. It sounds goofy, but if you look up how cigarette companies use ammonia in their tobacco, you'll see that they try to make their cigarettes as addictive as possible. I had tried to quit cold turkey before, but just like you said, the longest I could go was two weeks, then I'd start smoking even more than before!

I have tried in the past to quit smoking...using the patch, it didn't work.
I am now quitting cold turkey.....This is day 13 for me cigarette free.
Try to find something else to do when you get the urge to smoke (something more healthy than beating your garage with a bat...lol)
Take a walk...brush your teeth...I also got a worry stone, which is a medium size smooth stone I carry in my pocket and I will rub my worries away.
Drink lots of water, it helps to flush the toxins out....from what I understand...it takes three days to get the nicotine out of your system and 30 days to break your self of the physical habit.

Talk to your kids about how cigarettes harm your health and explain to them that you are trying to quit so you will be healthier...You might be surprised to find that those little ones can be a great source of support.

You should also talk to your husband, and tell him you really could use the extra support.

It will get easier...my first week really sucked, but it's much better now.

I am also 30 year old female with three kids ages 7,8 and 10 years old.
My only advantage over you is that my husband doesn't smoke.

I quit cold turkey and ive been cigarette free for three years now, but you have to take into consideration that i didn't smoke as long as you did. the first week is the hardest, and you're at the worst part right now. I had nicotine gum for a couple days but it didn't work for me. The best thing i can tell you is if you really want this you can do it. if worse comes to worse, i would talk to a doctor because they have medicine to ease the withdrawls, but that can get pricey. a nicotine craving only lasts a couple seconds, but one you have the craving you think about it over and over. try to keep your mind on other things when you get a craving.. chew some gum.. bite on a toothpick (that's what i did) keep your mouth busy on other things than wanting to smoke a cigarette. I know its bad for you to pick up one habit when trying to get rid of another, and if that doesn't sound like something that you want to do, i recommend consulting a doctor. good luck with everything, hopefully you wont let the cravings control you!!!

Talk to your husband, tell me when someone smokes in the family, you all smoke, by second hand smoke, tell him he needs to have some faith in you, and maybe you can convince him to quit as well. My boyfriend was a smoker and felt the affects on his lungs after 3 years, he didn't want to wake up knowing he was "slowly" killing himself. He wanted a future for kids and a wife and simply wanted to be around longer. If you think about this i think you will know why he stopped then. If your husband is not willing to quit, MAKE him, smoke outside. of the subject, your husband doesn't believe in you! (WHAT AN A$$!) but you can also go talk to a church and try the nicotine gum or patches, what can it hurt? Don't flip out when you want one, count to ten and grab pretzels or lollypops. They will take your mind off of the cigerettes. Its time to take care of yourself and your family. Talk to your children and let them know this is hard on you and you need their coroporation with you. Hope I helped

I found a website called quitnet.com You should be able to to get a support system from there. Good luck! I quit while my husband was still smoking and I swear I could have killed him. At least I got him to stop smoking in the house. Also, do it for YOURSELF. You are a strong person and you can do it. I did it as kind of a defiance thing because my husband and best friend didn't think I could do it!

Remember that smoking is bad for you. It causes lung cancer and sometimes cancer in the mouth. Tooth decay is also promoted from smoking. The reason why you crave it is because it's a stress reliever along with the addictiveness of the tobacco.

Try chewing gum!!! It's a stress reliever, cheaper, and has no harmful side affects. They also have created special gum and patches to help take off the edge.

I'm not a smoker, but my Dad smoked for 40 years. When my sister got pregnant 28 years ago, he quit cold turkey. He was one hell of a grouch to be around for awhile. But, he quit because he wanted to live to see his grandchildren grow up. After a few months everything was fine.

My husband smoked when I first met him. That's the only thing I didn't like about him. He tried to quit on his own. He couldn't. He finally went to a hypnotist and hasn't smoked in 5 years. At the time, I was a bartender. He would come in and everyone was smoking, but it never tempted him. He says that sometimes he likes to smell the smoke, but still hasn't been tempted to smoke.

With your husband smoking in front of you has to be hard, but hang in there and do what's best for yourself. Maybe if you stop, you can convince your husband to stop.

SLOW DOWN! You need to have a smoke, as I don't think that you are ready to quit yet. But, now you know what you are in for, and it will be easier next time. and the next time, and the next time, until you finally quit. That is the only answer, and it doesn't go away in 20 days either, and there are other hurdles you will jump through besides the physical addiction. You will get it. Just keep trying, but don't kill yourself, or anyone else. You didn't become a smoker overnight, and you won't become a non-smoker overnight. Just have your cigarette, and try again. You'll get it I PROMISE!!!!!

I have never smoked (thank god) but I feel 4 u. I have seen a person who used to smoke 60 a day, one day he decide to quit, he threw the pack and never looked back.
About support from family. It really sucks but don't give up, keep yourself busy doing something, hold pencil in hand if u feel like something missing. I heard that chewing a herb called CLOVE (its black about 1/2" long) helps and it has no side effect.

From experience in quitting... you need to have some will power... there's no getting around that.
I went to a chiroprator who gives Electro Accupuncture. I know your chicken and don't like needles. I got news for you... they don't use needles in Electro Accupunture and it doesn't hurt either. Check with some Chiropractors in your area and see if they do it. As far as I know it's available nation wide. It worked for me, my son and his mother-in-law. I wish you Good Luck.
