well I dont just read it through, I go by passages and I use a Student Bible becuase it has followups and questions to help you understand. I usually tell people to study the bible, not read it. I either read random passages or I look in the back where it says like "if you are worried read this, or if you are losing faith read this". It often helps to read it according to your mood like when you are going through something. Otherwise just start with the New Testament, its usually the easiest :) Good luck and happy reading :)

You're reading it wrongly if you open up the Bible and read what you want to hear. It's like when some people, and I've done it too, just open up the Bible and expect God to show them an amazing revelation that they just happened to open up to. I've heard of God doing that before, pointing out a specific verse by randomly opening the Bible but for the most part it doesn't work that way. The best way to read the Bible is to start at the beginning and read it like a story rather than jumping around. The Bible is a story so it makes the most sense when you read it consecutively. Also, I think it's really good to just ask for God's wisdom and inspiration before you read His word because sometimes He'll reveal something to you through a certain verse that you might have read over and over again but finally you understand it! It's wrong to manipulate the Bible to solve your own problems, take it as it is and don't conform it to your will because it's purposed to be God's will. I've heard of people breaking up with their girlfriend because they read a quick couple of verses and thought it applied to their situation when really it was out of context. That's another thing don't take the words out of their context. Other religions do that, such as Mormonism. The important thing is that you spend time with God in His word learning more about what He wants for your life and learning who He is and what He has done. Don't get discouraged because people say you are reading it wrongly, just listen to God, He'll guide you.

There are many ways to read the Bible. Some people read it like a novel. That isn't the best way though I am guilty of doing that. Some people have a Bible with footnotes and commentary. They read the passage and then read the commentary to see how others interpret the passage.
I have been told to use the OIA method (observation, interpretation and application).
In observation, you read the passage, look at the author's tone; see if there are any repeating words to emphasize meaning as there was no such thing as bold print back then.
In interpretation, you ask yourself what the passage means.
In application, you find out how you can apply what you have read into your daily life.

Top two answers are good ones.
The bible was written to teach people how to live, and who is responcible for your being here. It is full of experiences collected to show the why's and where fores.
It also was written by a Jealous God. He said so. He demands total devotion for things to work properly.
That my friend is it in a nutshell.
You can read a couple of chapters and stop and meditate. Getting the best out of the bible requires both concentration, and someone to explain what you don't understand. That is called a bible study. It makes things more fun and you have someone who will be a friend for life.

There is really no specific way to read the Bible. Find a story or passage you like the best and start from there. If that gets boring, try reading it all the way through, cover to cover. That's what I'm doing now!

Unless it's in Hebrew, Chinese or Japanese version... you'd read it from left to right. LOL. j/k!
Perhaps by "wrongly" they mean that your interpretation of a particular verse is somewhat "different" from theirs? Maybe??
Listen in on a few Bible study groups to expand your knowledge of it. Learn the lessons not the rote.
Keep at it, read it at your own pace, and get inspired.
Peace be with you!

The best way is to have the greatest philosophers and theologians for the past two millennia to debate and agree upon the exact meaning God intended to communicate through scripture.
Then, use their consensus to establish creed and dogma - the correct way to interpret the bible.
That, at least, it the way the world's oldest and largest church (the one founded Jesus and led by St. Peter) does it.
Or you can pompously declare yourself to be the world's (no, all time's) preeminent theologian and interpret it your own damn way, like we've seen with Branch Davidians (think Waco, Texas) and Mormons (think polygamy).

The Bible is certainly a very complex book. It's very symbolic and may seem very hard to understand. You must remember that the Bible is not a story book, there is thought behind it. You may want to consider reading a couple of articles before doing your reading. I've attached a website below, please refer to it.
