it started last december when the Sessenbrenner bill was passed, and only a few congressmen read it. it stated that all illegals were to be felons, and anyone harboring or helping would also be punished lawfully-like churches, relatives of illegals, doctors, nurses, etc.. the bill got into the wrong hands and people were finally reading it, so pro immigrant groups, illegals and US citizens were enraged and here we are today.

So, this is a good question if you read and understand it correctly.
Right on Bostonian ...but it/yours does'nt really answer the ?

Why is this a problem "right now" makes one wonder if we are being manipulated into not looking at something else ...like the war in Iraq? or?
I liked the answer given that was basically that people were fed up with the mess, the overpopulation, the noise the general disrespect for our laws, etc. All these and more were true for me and no matter how much I complained to the "authorities", I coudn't get "no satisfaction" Cops would say that they couldn't enforce the law cuz they didn't have enough money for: people dumping trash in the steet, noise from Mariachis up the street, Mexicans running thorugh my yard and doing damage, etc. and so on. Ha! So funny ...I could cry!
I also wonder if the La Raza racists, are making an attempt to take over the USA with all this hubba bubba about immigration. I mean, if you really think about it ...this could be a real terrorist plot to do the USA in. Highly ironic (and coincidental) the issue of immigration being broached now seems to me. Illegal or otherwise.

It is a huge problem that can be felt every day in our border states, particularly if you have children in the schools. However, since you can't tell an illegal immigrant from looking at them a lot of us had no idea how many of those here were illegally here. Because this has been a growing issue, the House (with the President's support) put together a bill to enforce immigration laws, put employer databases in place so employer sanctions could be enforced, and secure the border. I don't think the current illegals were under consideration so much as stopping future ones, but being an illegal alien would have been made a felony.

While the felony provision would be consistant with the laws of many countries, including Mexico, leftist agitators and illegal immigrant supporters protested, and organized marches demanding rights. At these marches some groups carried signs saying 'I am in my homeland' 'Europeans go home', carried Mexican flags, and flew the United States flag upside down, etc.

Most Americans were really pissed off by illegal aliens demanding 'rights', and didn't know how much to be concerned about things they were finding out for the first time. Some of these include knowledge of the MEChA orgainzation whose Constitution is to 'take back' through whatever means including intentional demographics, the southwest of the United States. Also, we learned that while illegal aliens make up about 4% of the population, they are about 30% of prison populations nationwide and up to 50% of the prison population of California, by some accounts.

Apart from that, people in border states who have been feeling there has been way too much immigration unplanned for and unfunded to communities who provide services, found out it was substantially made up of illegal immigration. The Senate and Bush then decided to more than double legal immigration going forward, legalize those here, and let the new workers and new legals all bring in indigent parents and family members to even further strain services. What is more, they absolutely hid the real numbers in the discussion, never talking about total immigrants, but only the workers. In addition, while loudly proclaiming that they were 'cutting back' on the legalization of the illegals by grouping them according to how long they have been here, they hid a 10 year statute of limitations in the Senate Bill which would create a rolling amnesty going forward as a sort of engraved invitation to illegal aliens.

People are really mad. The employers would make money, but taxpayers foot the bill for the 'benefits' for the employers' work force. Even worse, our own children pay the biggest price by reduced education levels and accordingly reduced upward mobility.

We are pissed off.

I think it just kinda snuck up on people. People who don't live in areas with high obvious populations of illegals have been able to be more or less oblivious to the problems for a long time. However, recently the illegal immigrants and their supporters came out in droves on May 1st and drew a lot of attention upon themselves by marching and protesting and demanding rights and swinging their own home countries flags about and it was a call to a lot of Americans to get their heads out of the sand and look around. They looked and saw that many, many hospitals have been shut down and schools overloaded because of use of these services by illegal immigrants. I think it has been a problem that has been getting ready to explode for a long time but the May 1st circus is what seemed to really bring things out. That's how I noticed it, anyways.

WAY TO GO Boston!!!
To read most of the posts around here and by watching CNN, one would think it's an Immigration problem. ILLEGALS ARE NOT EMIGRANTS.
As far as the illegals sparking the "battle" it could be one of these reasons:

Making a mockery out of our beloved "Star Spangled Banner"

Burning the US flag

Hanging the US Flag upside down or under the Mexican flag

Protesting the people of America

Having an Islamic terrorist group support their Protest America Day March

Stealing the SS# from US citizens and using them for their own.

Etc....

Like Emily Letilla from the old Saturday Night Live…Oh! That’s different! Never Mind!
But your heart was in the right place.
If we documented a state sponsored Invasion by Mexico, criminal Illegal “rights” they would never have the g…courage to demand from their country of birth. Their refusal to assimilate as generations from everywhere did that came before, would you get a clue.
Different order if you will, When? For generations since the Mexican government was a way to relieve the excess population AND make a profit!
Why? See above!
Who? See Above! Once again!
What? An intentional stealth Invasion of Illegal (soldiers)!
Where? Mexico against the United States…and the when is increasing as I type.
One thought came to mind...If I know my neighbor is a criminal I can make a citizen's arrest...Can Americans do that with illegal Invaders? Current laws are not being enforced, give me a break!

It's not an "immigration problem". Immigration is the LEGAL process of entry into the US with the intent and authorization to become a permanent US resident, typically with the goal of becoming a naturalized US citizen. (Seeking citizenship is optional, it is not a requirement and many immigrants chose not to do so but they are here legally nonetheless.)

We need to use the correct terms. Illegal aliens are often referred to as "illegal immigrants." This is not correct usage. Anyone in the US without legal status is an ILLEGAL ALIEN. They are NOT immigrants! A documented IMMIGRANT is in the US LEGALLY and has most of the rights of US citizens except suffrage and holding public office.

The only true "illegal immigrant" is someone who was granted LEGAL STATUS based upon a fraudulent application for immigrant status. These people exist, to be sure, but are a tiny fraction of the problem.

The problem is the 12 to 18 million ILLEGAL ALIENS in the US. As the term implies, they are foreigners (aliens) in the US illegally and without statue. The problem is mostly economic; they come here for jobs that either pay better than in their homeland or don't even exist there. (Of course, some of them are crimminals in their homeland and just come here for "greener pickings" in the US; our prisons are full of those types as well.)

Employers are willing to employ undocumented workers at lower than typical wages. They don't pay taxes on these wages so the American taxpayers are cheated out of income legally due the US. Since they pay lower wages, most legal workers (American citizens and immigrants alike) will not take those jobs.

The fines assessed for employing undocumented workers are so low that it's cheaper for these employers to pay the fines than to employ legal workers at prevailing wages.

If the laws already on the books were enforced to the maximimum allowed, it would be cheaper to employ legal, documented workers and the jobs for illegal aliens would dry up almost over night. Once the job market for illegal aliens dried up, the flood would drop to a manageable trickle and most of the illegals currently in the country would voluntarily return home.

I thank the illegals them selves by standing on corners looking for work some turned into gangs of illegals, people got sick of it and the people in San Diego got tired of illegals in the east county crossing peoples property and destroying things, and leaving their trash every were, some people even had their lives threatened, then the news media got wind of it , people just got fed up. I live in San Diego I no how bad it is. And in the north county illegals are living in canyons building encampments in the brush, police going in and breaking up the camps that was in the news, they try to live like they do in Mexico, just build where ever they want, that doesn't work here in the U.S. They just became so brazen and in your face about being here they didn't care that people new they were illegal. Then when they wanted to make it a felony to be here illegal, the activist got into the act and got Mexican migrants organized to protest, that they were breaking the law, They just want to come and do what they want. And they want the public to shut up about it.

Job loss-The Economy-Drain of our welfare system-Overcrowding of schools-High Medical cost (California needed funds sent to them to cover the needs of Illegals using their system paid for by the state)- Crime rise (the borders especially-even the Indians are complaining). Complaining of the Hispanic community of their rights-Lack of laws being followed. The list goes on-whether intented or unintented-mass migration has caused problems. All problems surface if not taken care of.
