"A woman who becomes pregnant and gives birth to a son will be ceremonially unclean for seven days, just as she is unclean during her monthly period. On the eighth day the boy is to be circumcised. Then the woman must wait thirty-three days to be purified from her bleeding. She must not touch anything sacred or go to the sanctuary until the days of her purification are over. If she gives birth to a daughter, for two weeks the woman will be unclean, as during her period. Then she must wait sixty-six days to be purified from her bleeding. These are the regulations for the woman who gives birth to a boy or a girl. She is to bring two doves or two pigeons, one for a burnt offering and the other for a sin offering. In this way the priest will make atonement for her, and she will be clean." Leviticus 12: 1-8

"And a man will choose...any wickedness, but the wickedness of a woman...Sin began with a woman and thanks to her we all must die" Ecclesiasticus, 25:18, 19 & 33.
"And I find more bitter than death the woman, whose heart is snares and nets, and her hands as bands: whoso pleaseth God shall escape from her; but the sinner shall be taken by her." Ecclesiastes 7:26, from the Hebrew Scriptures (Old Testament)
where is your HYGIENE THING now?

Yes. But remember, the bible wasn't written by God, it was written by men. Naturally self-centered, ignorant, insensitive... sorry guys, I still love y'all! If you've read the DaVinci Code, a theory presented in there suggests that when Rome was trying to make the conversion from matriarchal paganism to patriarchal Christianity, part of it was making the woman's magical ability to create life into something dirty and unclean. That's when the idea of Eve's original sin came around, and men have had the upper hand ever since.

This is definitely related to health and sanitation. They didn't have the luxury of indoor plumbing or antibiotics as we do today....it was a whole different world than what we are used to....the bleeding itself, intermixing of blood, was unclean....not the woman herself....and as far as some of those other verses, God knew that women were the worst weapons against men, which implies that men are weak....Jesus respected women....and what about Esther? Have you really performed your research properly, or simply sifted through the Bible or some internet version of it and pulled out quotes that you think are demeaning against women? Mary gave birth to the Son of God.....I wouldn't call that demeaning in the least....do a little more research before jumping to conclusions

its more of a hygiene thing.
and for the protection of the woman, as she is more susceptible to disease after birth.
as for the period deal.
i know i don't feel like going anywhere when i'm bleeding. i just wanna eat chocolate, cry, and yell at everyone. i think its for everyone's protection that i stay away from people.
like my best friend says "never trust something that bleeds for seven days and doesn't die"

not only did this serve as a sacrifice for sin, it was also a sanitary thing. the women were banished from the camp/city for the duration of their period. this way there wasnt blood inside the city/camp that could carry disease.
