It has been speculated that they are tasting the slight "odor" that emanates from these products. They may also enjoy the texture of the items on their tongue. I have also read, and don't know if it's true, that it putting a couple of ice cubes in their water and giving them fresh water 2-3 times a day satisfies whatever their need is that makes them lick plastic bags.

*LOL* That is the question of the ages. I notice you said "he", as well.
I don't know WHY, but I had a male cat (Balinese) that lived to be 13 who used to eat plastic anytime he got the chance. In fact, "Don't eat plastic..." used to be screamed around my house a lot. A now have a 8 month old Balinese boy (along with a girl) and he also likes to snack on plastic, although he doesn't "eat it" so much as the other one did. The girls are not interested at all. Just a taste for it, I guess.

I wouldnt look too deeply into it---my cat licks the walls, the phone, the computer, the rug, the desk, whatever she can get to. Does your cat happen to be white? I have had two with this odd personality, and I read somewhere that white cats with two different colored eyes are really spies sent her from aliens. I think this is most definitely true.

Cats just do these things. My mother cat Sassy is obsessed with licking the front bumper of my mom's car (when it's parked) and her son Zipper likes to sniff tires. Don't worry about it if he's not eating the bags. Just make sure he doesn't start.

Cats have as many personalities as do people! I have one cat that likes smelling my breath, and another that likes to pet my husband's shoes. But please let me warn you about something - my friend just got her cat back from a week at the vet's office. He ate part of a plastic bag and got a severe blockage! Take the plastic away from him!

My cat, Pabo, like to go inside plastic bags and attack it. Lol. Maybe your cat is blind and can't tell that the plastic bag is not a bald kitten. Lol. Or maybe it's just a cat thing.

My cat chews on plastic bags. I think it either makes him feel dominant, or he just likes the sound.
