Is Contrails confused with Chemtrails?

Apparently, this is a "conspiracy" that claims that the jet contrails (the trails left behing by jet engines that superheat air just to leave a steam trail behind it) are leaving chemicals that modify behaviour and so on behind them.

If this were really true:

They'd have to do it at lower altitudes, where contrails cannot form, in order to have proper dispersion of the chemicals. Otherwise they just stay there high up in the atmosphere.

Second: why would they? Seriously.

Hmmmm... come to think of it, the chemicals are just so you watch more fox news or do something really republican.

Chemtrails are ordinary contrails viewed through a filter of paranoia and ignorance. People see lingering contrails and think something nasty is being sprayed on them - some even claim they find "residue" afterward. Reality is that contrails can linger and spread if there is enough moisture in the upper atmosphere. And any residue from a contrail you see overhead will spread far and wide, not fall straight down.

There may be a distant connection to reality in all this paranoia, as the government has performed experiments in aerosol dispersion over populated areas. These tests were performed at much lower altitudes in order to be effective.

I've heard of them and even seen the "grid" patterns that people talk about. I'm not paranoid about them because I haven't had a chance to look at actual flight schedules and determine if the grids are just normal air traffic patterns. I've never actually seen a contrail/chemtrail float down to the ground.

I do remember reading credible information about weather modification experiments with aerosols in the air. Even that needs to be taken in context. We are constantly surrounded by dust and gases that are emitted by the environment on the surface. Without some cold, hard data comparing the concentrations of stuff emitted by planes with the baseline of contaminants in our natural environment, I'm not going to jump to any conclusions. I have enough things to worry about already.
