I too have an eggplant colored sofa and chair. I painted my living room an earthy tan color. It looks fine with the eggplant, but now I wish I had painted the wall more of a warm yellow - it is just easier to work with as far as finding art and accent pieces. At least that is what I have experienced. I think you are safe if you go with a neutral taupe or complementary yellow that is not too pale or too bright, especially if the eggplant color leans more toward brown rather than purple. And it does not sound as if you want the space to be too colorful. If you don't like the pillows, you can always pitch them and find pillows (or fabric) that will pull your colors together.

RE:
I have a purple (eggplant) couch, what color should I paint my walls?
Just bought a new couch and don't know what color to paint the walls. I don't want white (boring), and my couch is kind of an eggplant color. I have hardwood maple floors that are pretty light. The accent colors in the pillows are light yellow and light green, I'm afraid that might...

Your room sounds absolutely divine. I would suggest two possibilities. Because everything is so light (except the wood - ohh, I LOVE sleigh beds) I would do something darker - stripes of a muted shade of the green (a sage in the same family as the lime) with either the a muted shade of the same blue or the same eggplant. Now, you don't want pale colors - you want to mute them, and that is done by adding gray, not white. Look up the Munsell color system - those tones would love fabulous with the decor in your room and you could bring in the blues, green, and eggplant in a gorgeous way. Also, I LOVE the idea of the frog .... and if the colors on your pots seem too "bright", you can tone them down with alcohol ink... it's very easy to do and Ranger makes wonderful products. You dilute it with a little of their diluent or even rubbing alcohol and apply it with a rag and it will give a wonderful wash of color that will subdue a color that is too bright and let you modify the shades so they coordinate better.

Each color has a cool and a warm tone to it.
The cooler tone is the bluish hint
and the warm tone is a yellowish tint.
Which ever colors you choose (because many colors will match) be careful to stay with either one of the two tones. (cool or warm) Mixing them will not work.
My favorite mix with eggplant is either taupe (because it has a purple tint to it already - warm tone) or a sage green, which usually has a cooler tone to it (like a light blue-greyish tint)
This all depends on what tone you already have with the couch.
If you are not sure which tone you have...try placing a yellow next to it or a blue. Which one goes best, then go from there...
Hope this didn't confuse your issue.

I know it sounds redundant, but the taupe is going to be your best choice to pull the room together. You don't mention any pattern or particular style your're trying to achieve, so I'd suggest trying to find an area rug at least the length of the sofa with the taupe, eggplant and at least one of the accent colors. To add a touch of elegance, you could purchase lengths of matching taupe fabric to drape you windows which would visually enlarge the room. Add a couple of taupe pillows into the mix with the yellow and green or even a floral or geometric print with a taupe background and the accent colors. The key is in tying all the colors together (the rug pattern) and working from there. You can then look for decorative items and art pieces in the yellow or green thru out the room.

the green. i saw it on a show and it was gorgous! at first i was thinking , ' OH ! NO ! ' and it turned out awesome.
it's only color. it can be changed if you don't like it. no matter what the color.
the green in the show was the same depth as the eggplant color on the color swatches. in each swatch it goes from light at the top to dark at the bottom. both on the show were towards the bottom. only 2 walls were the dark and the others were a light color (like a yellow-beige).
remember the 60 - 30 - 10 rule.

I just painted my room and I used a light shade of blue and a light shade of green. I used the green on one wall as an accent wall, that's were my kingsize bed is. It looks great.
