The name "Jesus" didn't even exist in the 1611 Authorized Version! (No "J" in the English version until 1769!)

The Greek name transliterates to something like IESOUS.

The chances of the Angel speaking modern English to Mary are actually quite small. He probably didn't speak Greek to her either.

The Hebrew evidence all points to the Angel saying that "you shall call his name Yeshua for he will save his people". YESHUA in Hebrew means "Salvation", so you get the wordplay there.

This is the name found on the Ossuary of James. (Of course it wasn't "James" in Hebrew either, but "Yaakov".) It is also the way that the Hebrew is spelled in all the Hebrew manuscripts of Matthew that I am aware of. (About 45 old Hebrew manuscripts I think at this point.)

Why did Jesus was named Jesus if that name is not Jewish?

Because Jesus is the Greek translation of the Hebrew Yeshua.
Since Greek was the common tongue in that day it is the language used to pen the New Testament. Just as Christ is not Hebrew but the Greek translation of Messiah.

its like the name Lewis, Luis, or Louis all are the same name just different languages.

Hebrew names reflect or mean something its not just a designation to call some one.

Study out His name(s) and it will reveal much about who God is.

Unfortunately,I don't remember the details, but I know words often have a meaning behind them. If you read in the Old Testament, you'll notice that many times after a name is given there is an explanation for the name. I think "Jesus" was a KJV translation. Hope that helps!!

Do a study using the Strong's Concordance. Jesus is from the Hebrew name Jehoshuah, which means Jehovah-saved - because He was Jehovah, come in the flesh.

The Messanger Angel gave that name to Mary when he came to tell her that God had chosen her for the task of giving birth to and raising His son. The Angel told Mary that God's son was to be named Jesus.
