okay i was just wondering about mango's, banana's, oranges etc. You know how when you wait a few days before you eat a fruit you bought its kinda sweater right. For example when you have a green banana u wait till its yellow so its sweeter. well u know how like sweet things normally have more calories so if i wait a few days later will there me more calories or just the same?

i don't think that calories that you get from fruit wither riped or not are a big worry,
they are beneficial and have a good deal of nutrients and vitamins compared to their caloric intake.
but if u should worry about any thing, then its the burgers and other junk food that have tremendous amounts of calories

No but yes. Some of these people are on the right track with the starches changing to sugar when the banana is ripe. The calories stays the same but the way your body absorbs them doesn't. Fruit can make you fat and you can't eat as much as you want as some seem to imply. Eating complex carbohydrates(starches) that are slow to digest makes you feel full longer and makes you less likely to over indulge. Where eating sweeter(simple carbohydrates) doesn't. Bottom line if you eat sweeter things you tend to eat more.

It's the same. I studied cullinary arts in college and I asked the same exact question. It would make sense that if something is sweeter, then it has more calories, right? Well, calories are a source of energy, and energy cannot evolve. The amount of calories (energy) in a banana when it is not ripe will be the same as when it is ripe. Good question. Hope this helps!

i belive i can give u the best answer in here
well what exactly happens when u leave a green banana for example for a while is that certain enzymes work on the stored starch and other NONSWEET complex carbohydrates (pollysaccharides) and hydrolyse them into sweet simple sugars (the sugar doesnt come from the outer spaces its already in the banana but in a different nonsweet form)
so actually the calories in here are the same but sweet simple sugars can be burned faster as they are easily metabolised by the liver while the complex ones need more time as they have first to be hydrolyzed to simple sugars

Bananas are best when they are almost brown.

The sugar in the fruits hasn't fully matured yet and thats why if you let something sit out for a day or two before you eat it, you give it a chance to fully ripen.

Also if you notice a fruit that is sweet and ripe will smell stronger than one that isn't. I won't buy fruit that doesn't put off any scent thru the skin.

A ripe banana is considered ripe when it has absorbed all the sugars from the peel. (you know how a ripe banana has a very thin skin) this is because it has absorbed all the sugars and nutrients from the peel. Because an unripe banana has not absorbed all the sugars it will actually have LESS calories then a ripe banana. (But not such a difference to worry about)

Nope. The starches in the fruit are being converted from one type to another. Calories will be exactly the same.

Further. Calories are irrelevant. You can eat as much raw fruits and vegetables as you want. Those calories have zero impact on your weight (weight is MUCH more complex than calories in vs exercise done).

Bananas are more acidic when they are too ripe.
No matter what, mango's and oranges are NEGATIVE calorie. When I mean negative here is what I mean:
Let's just say an orange is 50 calories. When you digest it, it takes your body 60 calories to digest. That makes it negative.
Negative meaning it takes your body more calories to digest it then the amount of calories it has.
Mango's, strawberries, grapes, oranges, lemons, watermelon, blueberries, raspberries, lettuce, cucumber, carrots, celery, onion...etc.
Onions, celery...VERY HIGH Negative calorie!

I'm a mango lover, and I'm sure that calories become more after the fruit has ripen.
long chain starches will be converted by the fruit's enzymes to fructose, sucrose and galactose. and these are simple and high energy and calorie sugars.

I think they will be the same number of calories, but different types of calories, some of the starch calories will change into sugar calories, and they are metabolized in the body differently.
