I am a cosmetlogist that does african american hair, and it seems as though my skills aren't getting any better I've been doing this for a year now, any words of wisdom? or any tape you recommend to get some new ideas and techniques?

Don't get down sweetie, if your working on others' and doing what it is they ask of you, then you are trying. That's a great way to start. But you also have to take some time and creat styles YOU want to do. Learning never stops, everyday you learn something anew.
Watch lots of style shows. Look at lots of magazines, and go home and try them on yourself or a best friend. Practice practice practice. You are getting feedback from what it is your clientell is wanting, and you are learning from Style magazines, what is becomming popular. Always keep yourself up to date with whats happening out there. With time you will just get better and better. Be patient with yourself...you can't rush great art! With time, it will just begin to flow from you.

Try to attend as many hair shows that you can in your area or get with a top stylist to show you their skills.
