I have seen therapists on and off since my parents divorced in '88. Some of them were insightful, others not so much. The trick is finding someone u feel comfortable talking to. I did learn a lot about myself, but not necessarily at the time I was seeing the therapists. Sometimes somebody says something to you and it sticks with you. Somewhere along the way in life that something comes back to you and it helps to put the pieces together.

Yes I benefit and learn and it's worth the dough. I wish I could go three times a week! She doesn't tell me what to think or do, but helps me to see things differently; to act and respond in different ways to get different results.

It is different for everyone. I'm 28 and have been seeing theripists on and off since i was about 5. i tend to go back whenever things seem to be getting out of control for me. i have never learned anything about myself or my problems. i know what my problems are and it doesnt help to get them off my chest.
maybe i've just never found the right therapist...

My insurance covered the cost and I only had a $5 copay, so the money wasn't an issue. It was a chance to get a different, nonjudgmental view of my thoughts and my actions, and was incredibly valuable to me. I never would have thought to look at myself the way she did.

Well my parents made me go a couple years ago for some issues I had. I didnt want to go but I went anyway and it didnt help me. If anything she made me think of things that I didnt even think of to make my situation worse. But Ive heard they help people. idk..good luck.
