Go to www.dogbreedinfo.com/search.htm Just fill in a few simple questions and they will suggest a breed that would be good for your family and lifestyle.
Would you believe that I filled it out and it said Great Dane? Good thing, I already have one!

I have heard poodles do not shed dont know if its true but you could look it up but i know most dogs shed at least twice a year. You should check out your local animal shelter to see if they have a puppy that would stay small and then read up on the breed or breeds that it is mixed with. Good luck on finding a pup.

It doesn't matter on the breed of dog, you have to go dog by dog for personality. If a dog is in a foster home they will be able to tell you if it's good with kids. Try doing a pet search on the left hand side of http://ww.petfinder.com Just put in dog, size, age and zip code and all the dogs needing adoption in your area will come up. There will be symbol next to the ones that are not good with kids.

A puggle is very cute. It's half beagle and half pug, and you really get the best of both breeds. As for "small," they get to be about 15-18 pounds, which is the perfect size for me - small enough that it couldn't hurt anyone but big enough that if you step on it you won't kill it.

My puggle is 12 weeks and has not shed yet. I don't think it ever will. Ours is great with kids. It has just the right amount of energy - hyper when you want to play, sleepy when you want to relax.

A doxin is the perfect dog for you then! They are small, cute, playful, good with kids, and dont shed as much because they have short fur!

Most every breed sheds. West Highland Terriers are great dogs with very very minimal shedding. They are very cute and friendly too.

Shih tzus are small and good with kids. As far as I know they don't shed.

This is from the akc.
"As the sole purpose of the Shih Tzu is that of a companion and house pet, it is essential that its temperament be outgoing, happy, affectionate, friendly and trusting towards all."

Tea cup poodle. I have one even though we live in the country and my dad is a cowboy he loves my dog. Go to different poodle sites. you will love them. They do not shed at all.

Toy or miniature poodle come to my mind first since you need the "no shedding" factor. Also Poemrainans.
