It depends on what you want to do. How many times are you going to stay in a hotel?
Figure on $75 per hotel stay if you're going to find roadside places along the way (some will be more, some will be less). And then $7-8 per meal depending on what kind of food you plan to have.
I would strongly suggest bringing along store-bought snacks that you can eat during the drive. It will keep you from picking up junk food at every gas stop. This will save money and tummy!
If you have friends along the way, it would be a good idea to plan your trip through their cities so that you can save the hotel $$ and possibly catch up on old times. If you do need to stay in a hotel, check out the travel magazines at the restaurants and gas stations at which you stop. There are always coupons for local lodging in them.
Then you have to factor in what kind of entertainment, if any you want. Are you going to purchase souvenirs? Those little extras, when not planned for (impulse buys) can REALLY add up.
Keep a talley of all the money you spend, everytime you spend it. Most times, you really have no idea just how much money you're burning through until you're down to the last little bit.
One final suggestion is not to take along much cash. Most places these days accept debit cards and travelers checks. A debit card is easy to get cancelled and travelers checks can be replaced, where cash cannot.

it depends on if you want wieners and french fries of wine tasting...I would take about $100 a day so you can eat three times and have some fun. you will see a few turquoise selling American Indians when you pass the Reservations and sometimes fresh fruit stands and maybe one day when it is very hot you will want to swim or go into a city for a nice meal. If not, there is some spare for a flat tire or when you get there..it's not like you gotta spend it all...take the mac card.
This does not include hotels..if you call motel 6 and or motel 8, you can figure on driving 600 miles a day and pay in advance to have sure reservations in case they book up. you can communicate and make changes if you get held up but this way they will assist you. it is cheeper this way too. if you have a child there are some hotels that feed kids and some they stay free too...best to call them and plan ahead...

An average amount would be $100 per person per day. That will cover gasoline, admission fees, restaurant meals, groceries, and small souvenirs. You won't spend anything close to that in the Smokies. Use a credit card as much as possible rather than carrying a lot of cash. Just want to make sure you realize that it is almost 14 very long hours from the Smokies to Miami. I suggest you break that drive somewhere.
