My dad in Florida, U.S. citizen applied for my sister who is 21yrs old and unmarried for a I-130 on Feb/05. Any idea how long does this process take? The lawyer said probably 5 years, I hope she is kidding.

If you go to www.uscis.gov and you click on the right on Case status and Processing dates you will be able to select the place that will process the application ( irt might be in Texas since you're from FL - Jacksonville Fl does not process I 130's
If it will be processed in TX...that's bad luck since they are only now processing the applications they received in 1999....I hope this helps a bit ....
Best of luck to you.

Most immigration lawyers are outright crooks. The longer it takes to process a visa, the more money they make. Some of the previous answers are correct. Check the USCIS Web site for information and details.

It varies from individual to individual. If she is clean it won't take long. If there is anything that raises even the smallest flag, it will take awhile. I would be curious as to why that lawyer said 5 years. Must know something about your sister if she is serious. The flag doesn't mean she won't get citizenship, just a longer time to get checked out what it's doing there.
