You can get in faster if you have a DR's referral. Have your primary doctor's office contact who you want to see and they can get you an appointment faster than if you call yourself.

Contact your health insurance company, they may be able to help you find someone in your area who is accepting new patients. Many times, they will "partner up" a psychiatrist with a counselor in such a way that you will see the counselor most of the time, and the psychiatrist once a month or so. The psychiatrist will oversee the counselor and also prescribe any meds you may require.

Your insurance card will probably have a separate # for mental health issues.

Also could try an EAP program, if your workplace has one.

Psychiatrist In My Area

You can admit yourself into a psych hospital. Once there, you will be seen by a psychiatrist. After being discharged within a few days, the pdoc along with a social worker, will set you up with after care or an out patient program. If you really need to see someone, this may end up being your only option. good luck to you. I hope you get better.

p.s. I just read the article of the previous poster who suggested you not go to a hospital. Wheras it may have its merits, it is not sound advice. If you are in need of help, GO GET IT!!

One of the first posters was right. It's much easier to get in to see a doctor if another provider refers you. Your primary care physician is a good place to start.

However, there are also counselors who work closely with psychiatrists to manage a patient's treatment as a team. I would suggest making an appointment with a psychologist or other counselor you like. Talk to him/her and explain your dilema. They are usually willing to do your ongoing therapy and then arrange with one of their associates who is a psychiatrist to prescribe any mediation you might need.

try comprehend, pathways, its cheap and they may not be the best but you can get a refferal if they feel your problems are in need of something more... you can also go here until they have an opening, they do the same thing as psychiatrists do they also have a licensed psychiatrist to talk to and doctors who can prescribe you medicine... hopefully that helped... you can also go to a regular doctor who can refer you to a psychiatrist... and they will find someone who will take you

I hope your not joking about mental illness-
Call your insurance provider, they HAVE to find you someone who is accepting patents. I went through this with a for a specialist........
Go to the hospital if you need immediate assistance.
Infact if you tell your insurance you will have to go to the hospital if they can't find you someone, they will find someone for you faster.

Contact NAMI and see if they can give you any suggestions? My local psych center has a service for people that are unable to pay the fee, there are also community free clinics that could assist you.

Ask your medical provider for the nearest doctor office, they have to have someone close to you. If that fails than your company would need to change your plan!

If it's that bad, I suggest expanding your "area" and bump it up a notch or two....like...200 miles!
