Use the phone only to make a date. Chat her up with a minute or two of small talk, make her laugh to remind her that you're fun, and set a date. That's it! Do not spend hours chatting with her, this could easily result in her putting you in the "friends zone" which is the kiss of death. If she wants to talk to you for hours on end, insist that it be while the two of you are out on a date.
Try to call when she'll be home, as the answering machine is a tool women use to weed men out. If you must leave a message, leave the ball in her court and DON'T call her again for several days at least. Let her call you back; you don't want to seem desperate.

Pick up the phone, dial her # and say I was wondering if you would like to go out this weekend. Its that easy.
