I have a 2004 Impala to trade in. I see by the website cars.com that the price of a used car (trade in) can vary from region to region all accross the USA. Example: my local dealers are offering me $9,000.00 for trade in value on my car. But on cars.com my same car is for sale at much higher prices ($20,997.00) at delaerships in other states. Does anyone know of USA dealerships (or heard of one) that will do a trade in from accross the country?? Suppose they have representatives in other states? Thank you.

The amount offered you by a dealer for trade-in will not be even close to what you see your car selling for. They will give you 9000 and turn around and sell it for 19000. They are crooks. I don't understand how they don't laugh in your face when they offer you trade-in value for your car. My advice would be to sell your car outright to a private party, getting much more than the dealer would give you, and also cutting him out of that ridiculous profit.

Sale price and trade-in value are completely different animals. The dealer buys as low as he can and sells as high as he can. If you can get $21K for a '94, sell it, but don't expect the dealer to give you his profit. Dealerships are usually franchised and have to be licensed by the state they do business in because of title transfer and other legalities.

you are comparing apples and oranges as they say dealers buy cars at wholesale and sell at retail. it might make sense to sell the car at your best price and then purchase out of state if you can find a great deal but tradein value is going to be lowballed wherever you go.
