It depends on how artistic you would like to go. If you want a camera with a lot of versatility and won't completely break the bank, try a digital SLR, like the Canon Rebel XT. However, even as good a price as it is for a digital SLR, it's still going to cost around $600.. or more.
If you want a good digital camera at a decent price and are willing to go with less versatility, try digital point and shoot cameras, like the Nikon Coolpix or the Canon PowerShot, both of which are good quality.

Most digital cameras are pretty decent these days. even the off brands. I would reccomend some thing from Olympus or Canon. 6 mp is really good enough for a sharp picture. Personally , I don't care for the Kodak easy share ones but know people that are satisfied with 'em. It really depends on how much u can spend. Remember the prices are going down and it wasn't that long ago that 4 mp cost alot, now u can get a 6 mp for the same price. My favorite camera is still my old ( but working great), non-digital 35ml Minolita.
Try checking out some pawn shops. you are kinda taking a chance but also have a good chance of of getting a quality camera for an inexspensive price.

I got a Kodak Easyshare for Christmas and I love it. I haven't even read the book and I get along fine with it. Very easy to use. It has many settings, like video, distant scenery, sports, outdoors, closeup objects, and many more. I highly recommend it and it is very affordable. They have many different models, depending on what you want. My husband bought it at Walmart and did good with the help of the sales clerk. It is very easy for me to download on computer and send e-mail, too. Also easy and fast to take and get copies. Good Luck

Anything above 4 mega-pixels, with 3x optical zoom. I also recommend Kodak because they have more settings to manually choose from without going through the internal options.
