I had the shingles about 2 uears ago and tried every concoction under the sun and nothing helped. My doctor even prescribed strong pain medicine and although it did allow me to sleep, it did nothing for the pain while awake.
I did read somewhere after I had gooten over my case of te shingles, that some of the topical sports creams like Ben Gay type products can relieve the pain in some people, but it also warned that in others it can cause an even more intense burning sensation.
BTW: I dont remember which creams it recomended specifically, Ben Gay was used just as a reference product...

I had Shingles for the first time a few weeks ago. I am normally in good health and haven't had any other health challenges before, so it came as a surprise.
Shingles is probably the most painful thing I have ever encountered. I went to the doctor, and he gave me some prescription drugs to take that was suposed to help, but didn't.
My wife found the Fast Shingles Cure ebook online and bought it for me, I am very lucky to have such a wonderful woman in my life. We followed the book, did what it said, and it delivered what it promised. Finally my Shingles rash is over... I feel truly blessed and thankful.

Shingles is caused by the chicken pox virus that has remained dormant in the nerve cells and for some unknown reason awakens.
The biggest problem is extreme pain. A doctor can prescribe an antiviral med that will help with the virus and probably a pain reliever (possibly a narcotic if other pain relievers have been tried without good results).
Topical creams will not relieve the pain. I would first try OTC (over the counter) pain relievers and if no good results see the DR. Keep them comfortable, clean and dry.

Shingles are a result of stress irritating the virus that is normally dormant.
One step to reducing the duration of the outbreak is to relax.
Second thing you can do is to apply some Balsam of Myrrh on the area to cleanse it and reduce the inflammation.

To allivate the itch? Calomine lotion. And go to a doctor. Shingles in adults can be potentially fatal if not treated.
