Hello there,
is it possible to teach your dog to punch other dogs? Why bite when you can punch and maybe even kick? I'm teaching my dog martial arts - he can break wood now! But can they punch? o_O

I don't think dogs can punch because, they shouldn't have to. I dont' think that even if you did teach them to punch, the force wouldn't be strong enough to make an impact on anyone. Why does your dog need to know martial arts, he's not going to need to know how to break wood.

Surprisingly, yes. Yakone' my siberian used to jump up on me, so I would push back off my lap, and we would go back and forth like that for some time. Now as an adult dog, he has a penchant for punching me in the stomach all the time (in play). He comes running at me full-tilt, and lifts up his front paws as if he were going to jump into my arms. Then he sucker-punches me in the gut. Sometimes he even knocks me down. Then he licks me to death.

When he is out in the kennels with the other boys, he uses that tactic with them too, but he always uses both paws, not just one, so I do not know if that counts as punching, but it works for me.

Yeah sure but it sure is hard to put gloves on them and teach them to hit the punching bag, ha ha.

Where do you think the breed called "boxers" got their name? Certainly not from the style of men's underwear.
