Islam regards women very highly. Why do you think there is a Chapter named after Mary in the Koran?? Its called "Mary".
Also, the Koran respects women so much that it says that Heaven is beneath women. Women are seen as special.
Also, you can find the same type of verse in other religions.
Does that mean they condone violence against women?
Ofcourse not.
Same with Islam.

I am a muslim woman and I have never been beaten by my husband nor has my mother or and other female member of my family or community, the information you recieved is incorrect I would expand my research to find out more on this subject if I where you...Also I have read the Quran many many times and I know for a fact that the Quran is not the source this came from.... God Bless and Good Luck on your search for knowlegde... Also I would like to add that I dont doubt that it does happen very often to mulim women but it is not a product of Islam but culture just like the other injustices many men do in the name of Islam like ,circumsison of females,honor killings ect...I do feel these and other injusticed our muslim men are commited should be adressed as it is deflowling the name of Islam and are not Islamic actions....

I know alot of Muslim women, and they all seem very content and un-beaten. One of my Docs is a Muslim woman and she is absolutely giddy when she talks of her husband, she's so in love!

Men have been beating their wives since the dawn of time, it was once considered necessary in almost every community, including Christian communities and others. There are some communities in which women start to wonder if their men are cheating on them if they don't beat them, even today. The Koran was written a long long time ago, as was the Bible. It is chocked full of antiquated rules and suggestions. Just like the Bible.
And for the record, unlike the Bible, the Koran had alot of female influence. One of Muhammed's most ardent supporters was his first wife. She gave him advice, and he took it. Theirs seems to have been a love match. He encouraged the taking of multiple wives (possibly at her suggestion) in order to discourage the infanticide of female children because there were and always has been more females then males in the community and traditionally male children were more desirable.

To most Muslim guys, beating their woman is everyday routine, that's why their women are forced to bundle themselves with clothes to conceal scars and contusions on their bodies.
