A Northerner who burns a Southern Church gets shot, stabbed, corked and hanged.

A Southerner who burns down a Southern Church just gets hanged. Why? We hate the North.

JUST KIDDING! Are you nuts or what? The penalty for arson is the same whether its a church, business or house. You mean you northerners don't have arson laws? Geesh.

Arson is a felony and the following lists from Colorado can give you an idea of what one would face:

1 Life imprisonment or death
2 Eight to twelve years plus one year of parole
3 Four to eight years plus one year of parole
4 Two to four years plus one year of parole
5 One to two years plus one year of parole

Keep in mind these are minimums, the judge can always go higher.

In Colorado:

18-4-102. First degree arson.

(1) A person who knowingly sets fire to, burns, causes to be burned, or by the use of any explosive damages or destroys, or causes to be damaged or destroyed, any building or occupied structure of another without his consent commits first degree arson.

(2) First degree arson is a class 3 felony.

so there you go, at least 4 years of getting raped in prison per occurance.

These statutes are pretty similar throughout the states (and Colorado seems pretty lenient with only 4 years for burning down a building).

Those boys down south who burned all those churches are looking at at least 40-80 years and 10 years of parole if not more.
They most likely have been given terrorism and conspiracy charges because of the sheer volume of their crimes. Committing 10 violent felonies will land you in a maximum security prison with all the other rapists murderers and arsonists.

lesser degrees of Arson include personal property such as cars and clothes of ex-girlfriend and can carry as little as a simple fine and probation.

If a white person burns a church where most or all of the parishioners are black, it's pretty severe -- and what's more, we hear about it all over the news.

But if someone vandalizes a Catholic church -- and it happens a lot -- the news hardly makes a peep about it, and the culprits often get off with probation, if the police bother trying to catch them at all.

Hey, I'm agnostic, and I find that Catholics really get on my nerves occasionally. But burning down churches is fanatical, and it kind of puts you in the same catagory of every super-religious person I've ever met. What's with the hate?

I think its the same as the rest of the United States

you are charged with arson and based on the evidence convicted and sentenced.

Arson can carry a rather stiff penalty. Go to jail, go directly to jail, do not pass go, do not collect $200.
